Comment by Zack Kasper on August 27, 2016 at 11:11pm: I actually did pick up "y'all" on tv. We don't get the "dukes of hazzard" on German tv, but we do get the "bachelor / bachelorette". Being a good husband I often watch this show with my wife. Moreover, I studied English at university which included American studies. That's where I also learned about regional varieties (such as Canadian raising or the northern cities shift).
