Ted Crocker has a good video on soldering piezos that might help.  Sometimes it's easier to absorb the concept when you can watch it being done.

Ok, thanks again Wayfinder. I may need to try and solder these wires direct.

Just have a cheap solder gun and it's a bit rough to not fry the ceramic. The peizos are cheap though so I can practice some :)

About the wires.

The wires I got at the hardware store are quite a bit thicker than the wires coming off the peizos.

Would that cause a lot of empedance?

Comment by Paul Craig on June 21, 2016 at 5:23am

If that isn't it, it must be in the jack/cord.

Comment by Paul Craig on June 21, 2016 at 5:20am

Murdoc, did you wire the piezo's in series or parallel?

Series would greatly reduce the impedance of the piezo's and result in low volume. Would be positive to positive of one piezo and negative of that piezo to positive of other piezo and the same for thethird piezo with it's negative to ground.

Parallel would be all piezo's positives wired together to hot and all negatives wired together going to ground would just slightly reduce impedance and have great sound and ample volume.

Yeah I could do a mag but the piezos keep it so 'rustic' :D

The git works, but can barely be heard.

OK, thanks Way. The bass in question does work fine through my crate/tce amps and di box and zoom b3 pedal.

OK guys. Maybe the chat box isn't best place for this lengthy discussion but....

I plugged my ipod into the amp and Claypool and Jaco have no problems being heard. Maybe my playing isn't worthy ;)

The main problem: The board +/- IS WRONG. I flipped the wires for both my bass speaker and the clock radio speaker, both plugged in and both play.

2nd problem: My cigar bass is passive with 3 piezos in it. (No volume knob). This is the bass I am building the amp for.

If I crank the amp volume, stick my ear to the speaker, move my bass out of the room and hit the strings with a stick I can barely hear it through the speakers.

My active mass produced bass CAN be heard fine. It is active with a volume knob. Also with my ipod I can make this thing TOO loud.

--------------------------------

Would adding a volume pot to my piezo discs help? Do I need a magnetic pickup and battery?

How can I get more sound to the amp?
