Looking for a simple neck almost through cbg drawing. I'm looking for detail if possible on the string retainer area. I've never done that only all the way through.
I have a tune-o-matic saddle/bridge so maybe that will help. How does the butt end of the guitar rest on? How is it stay in place please? Thank you.

Ok. I'll check these out. Thank you so much!!!
I found this pic... It's all I can seem to conceptualize...and is one method I think you are describing
I don't have any hardware etc for the neck plate ...might be made of wood. I'm having difficulty knowing the height of the wood plank etc.

Thank you Wayfinder ,
I understand that there needs to be an internal piece of hardwood running the bottom length of the box. What I dont understand is how high or low the notches should be on the box/lid. Also not sure how to compensate for the lid. Height of extra piece of wood that will attach to the neck. Since I've never done a non- neck thru the box it seems daunting. also as I will need to glue/screw that end in (I'd like to use a tune-o-matic bridge from an old guitar... So far all I am doing is cutting a piece of oak the length of the box. Wayfinder if you get time at some point can you do a simple drawing of this basic plan with a non thru neck, a piece of hardwood at the bottom of the box and detail more specific. Thank you and when and only if you can. Thank you get a chance. In the meantime I am going to put in the dimensions of this box and another pic of the box if that helps to clarify for you me and the forum. Once again thank you and I apologize if this is easier than I am making it seem. thank you very much as always- Jon

Box is 9.5 inches length
6.5 inches wide
3 and 1/4 inches with lid
2 and 3/4th inches without lid
The neck is a standard bolt on neck
The wood is red oak 3/4 x 2 approx 2 and half feet long

I needed to hear/read this. I appreciate the realistic words and help. I'm sure it will be fine. Thank you.
If you are building an acoustic instrument then I would suggest having as little dampening of the top, by anything, other than the bridge, and that does not really have a dampening effect unless too big or heavy. Anyway, the bridge you mention is meant to be fitted to a solid body or arch top guitar. If you mount the metal bridge to a wooden base, like an arch top guitar, put a suitable brace under that area in the top. The tailpiece I would mount into a solid block glued to the butt end of the guitar. Without seeing your box (body) it's hard to give a foolproof plan. And I would imagine if using this type of bridge you are building with electric in mind.
Cheers Taff
Thank you. I'd like it to be electric. It was a neck from a pretty low end electric guitar so I'm not sure there's too much to put into it...thought it worth a try as the guitar was not really playable the way it was originally. I think it was a first act guitar possibly.

Here's a pic of box but not a very good view. I'll try again to get better pics up

Hi Jon, I've used acoustic and electric necks many times in my builds, but never used an actual cigar box. I suppose the scale length of the neck and its position on body will plot the bridge and tailpiece positions on the box
Taff
Here's another angle of the box. it's pretty sturdy/heavy but maybe not big enough...

you can always Frankenstein a neck-mounting-block to the outside of the box.

Wayfinder,
Looking good...very simple cool design. It may take awhile but I will post results here. Thank you!!
looks as though the stick through is mid height level in box. Not flush at bottom of box. This originally was confusing me ...so the drawing really does help.

Here's the last one you helped with...no way coulda been done without your help and forum here. Sounds better than it looks.

Totally agreed. I got extremely frustrated with this guit (lots of boo boos) and and then my back went out for a long while ...I had to wait to see if it would actually play and thought... bolt for a bridge for now....it was also the first and only 0 fret (I had alot of help once again here on the forum). I am definitely going to change the bridge when I change the strings. Handmade bridge sounds like a great idea. Honestly Wayfinder, you and the forum made the guitar. Thank you for being so cool and helpful.
