I went [I] down to the [V] train yard,
with my [IV] satchel in my [I] hand.
Headed some place to [V] be a new [I] man.

I left behind a [V] woman,

I was tired of working, tired of that old grind.

I had to ride the [V] blinds
cause' I [IV] didn't have much [I] dough.
I rode the Katy train to the [V] Gulf Of Mexi- [I] co.

I couldn't keep a [V] job there,
Cause I [IV] messed up left and [I] right.
I hopped the Southern Pacific and [V] left one stormy [I] night.

I drifted out to Cali-[V]fornia,
Had a [IV] job on the Frisco [I] Bay.
I had it made till I [V] pissed it all a-[I]way.

I got in with a [V ] bad crowd
and [IV] ended up in [I] jail
Ain't no way to get ahead be- [V] hind them county [I] bars.

I'm a drunk and a [V] bum.
I [IV] wasted my [I] life.
Never shoulda left that woman. [V] I could had a good [I] life.
