What are double neck guitars for?

Hey all and thanks for your time. I've seen a double neck guitar on eBay and decides they look cool. I'm thinking about building me one but I'm at a loss about what you do with them? I mean, would you usually change key in the middle of a song? Are they supposed to be for two sets of three or four strings just in different keys? Am I better off having a three and a diddley bow on one body? Would that be more use or less use when playing than say two sets of four? I want to have one as something new in my collection but what are they for? BTW, this isn't a dig at them, I'm asking because I don't know the answers. Please someone help me justify the cost with more reason to have one than they just look cool. Please?

Hi Chuck. I appreciate your comments and help. I'm on a tablet and only have a tablet unfotunately and it just says this plug-in is not supported. Never been able to suss out what plug-in is causing the issue but unfotunately it means I'm not seeing your images and there's just a grey box where they should be. Can you put them into the page one at a time see if that works? Still might not be able to see them though. No idea why. Thanks again for helping out though.

I haven't been active on this site for a year or so but I saw your post in my email and thought I would share some pics of one I built a few years ago. It was a lot of fun to build and play. I used a cat food and water dish for the resonator.

Incredible instrument. Really loved seeing the attention to detail. No way mine is going to look that well done though. My woodworking skills leave a LOT to be desired haha. Thanks for sharing and for the inspiration in sharing these. Much appreciated.

Drop dead gorgeous build yet again Chuck. You've got skills and I hope you're getting rich from selling these too. I look at a lot on eBay and these blow most I see on there out of the water. Really great.

Thanks, I have never sold one. I really enjoy building them and I have built many for Family and close friends but never have tried to sell them.

Sorry for being thick but what are the four possibles from a double neck guitar with different tunings? I don't understand that one.
