All the wiring diagrams I see have a tone pot in the diagram..unless only 1 pickup is used.. Need some help wiring 4 simple humbuckers together. NO TONE pot...
I'm not sure if the diagram exists and I really don't know if it should be parallel or series.
Just trying to come up with a cool electric instrument with about 4-6 humbuckers , volume (ground) and jack. No tone.
Thank you

I'd want only one volume for all and I think I know based on what your saying here. I'll draw it out a little later run it by here and see if it's right...thank you
This is great Wayfinder thank you very much. It's exactly what I was looking for. It really perfect.

you could also use swiches to swich between pickups, just put a simple on/off swich between every "hot" lead from the pickup. also series wireing is possible with humbuckers, (but increases the hum a little bit, because the shielding is no longer wired to ground, but still less hum than single coils) and makes the sound verry muddy, because the pickups have a filtering effect(due to self induction). also in series, the humbuckers have twice/tripple/quadrupel the output, so amps and/or pedals will distort more easily and harsher. you should use a 1M vol pot with two series humbuckers, with three or four, use a 2M, otherwise the sound will get even more muddy.

And not that I wanna dissuade you in any way from doing this, but why, exactly, would you not want a tone pot, and why, exactly, do you want to stack up 4-6 humbuckers on a git?

The tone pot exists to help you shape the tone. With that many humbuckers, I'm unsure what, exactly, you're trying to achieve.

Are you just going for visual overkill?
Thanks Oily,
Yes it's somewhat a visual idea but also a different sound possibly? There's so many ways to shape tone these days that a tone pot is almost unnecessary on some instruments. It's funny in a way to think minimalist but have lets say 4 pickups max. I almost always see 1-2 pickups on typical instruments and usually a tone pot as well ...
And I'm certainly not going for Eddie van halen's vol /pickup/jack no tone typical set up...id certainly be interested in hearing 4 Humbuckers before actually doing or even attempting to put the monstrosity on a cigar box guitar...I don't think it would even fit....so I'm thinking a stick...always curious if boxes and bodies absolutely influence the sound when electric pickups are involved. Pretty sure it's just cool looking ...but maybe more like a big gulp soda from 7-eleven. Lol
so cool. I will take your guys advice and do a tone pot or two...lol why not ...all those Star Trek knobs an switches are just too tempting!!! And yes why not vary the sound if there's so many pickups
I'm not too good at soldering so I have a bit of trouble...I'm ok at it just not confident. I'd like to ultimately have 4 pickups, 2 volumes , two tones, a stutter button and a cool little light...just neat...ehh someday.
Wow ok. This sounds like the way to go..I do have the helping hands...little clips and such. I like the 4 nails practice idea... Thx

My tips are about the same as Wayfinder;'s

1) tin the points before connecting. (pre-solder the end of the wire before connecting it to a pot lug, pre-solder the pot lug before connecting it to a wire.

2) heat the solder, not the component. put the end of your solder on the component, then put the iron on top of the solder, as it melts and flows add a little more solder and keep the tip in contact with the liquid solder more than the component, the hot solder will heat the component plenty for good contact.

3) solder ONE two inch wire to the back of the pot and then use that for all of  your connections.

Wayfinder ...this soldering one wire to the pot and then connect other wires to it .....can you show me that sometime...in a pic. No rush just a huge area of frustration for me
Thanks yeah the back of the pot can be really tough (I scrub a little with sandpaper) so this one point idea should help. Certainly leaves room for another point on the pot if necessary...
Great Wayfinder I'm doing this next time. noted and saved
