Found this pretty sweet Harley Davidson can in T.K. Maxx the other day. With the tin being so thin I've glued a piece of ply into the bottom of the can and made this frame to support my through-neck. My plan is to fold the 'flaps' from the lid through the front panel and screw them to my neck before applying glue to the back panel and the end of my neck and sliding the whole frame into the tin to avoid the electronics and then screw through the base of the tin to lock it all together. would love some feedback from you guys, especially since you've probably got loads more experience than me and this is my first can build. Am I thinking along the right lines or have I just gone for overkill?

I've got about 8 dog bowls, metal bowls and pie dishes as well as six or seven wooden bowls. I'm thinking of trying to make a resonator guitar. Any tips or tricks or pitfalls to avoid? I think I've sussed how to attach the neck on a none-through-neck after looking around and got an idea for the piezo attaching. Quick question too, does the resonating qualities of the box itself matter if using a dog bowl or pie dish? Is it possible to use a box that probably won't resonate too well on these builds? All tips and help really appreciated.

Ah, OK. James Hill is pretty good too, but he likes to goof around with weird sounds a lot.

Did you see this? Jammin!

Well....

I also would have suspected the results would trend the other way. But I also think too much credit for the difference may be being attributed to the method of attachment as well.

Exact piezo location, the aforementioned difference in boxes, construction details, and even the variation from one piezo to the next.

My own experience makes me think you could build ten as identical as possible and end up hearing different characteristics.

And on the capo question, there must be nearly as many potential options as there are construction details in CBG's. I have seen improvised pencils or dowels and rubber bands for example. There's a capo style that is a bar and an elastic strap that might work on many styles of fretted necks.

Point is, there are far to many variables to offer much of a useful suggestion IMO.

Thanks guys. I guessed it might make a little difference, but I figured the hot glue might work as a dampener more than anything. It was a bit of a surprise when it turned out the softer sound was through the superglued one.

@Simon Cartlidge All I can say is... piezos are temperamental and a bit touchy. I don't know that I have used two identically yet (despite trying) because of this. I say try another build using super glue for the piezo (maybe even just wire it up as a stompbox and tap test the sound) and see if the sound is consistent. You could also try redoing the hot glued one to see if it is the way you mounted it.
