Just a heads up. Lidl have a router offer starting in 10 December. 6 and 8mm bit sizes so ok for little jobs (and easier to handle?) £29.99
A bit of luck on Gumtree. I will need a small amp to play my first (when finished) and top of the shortlist was a Roland Micro Cube. So looked. 15 miles away. Roland with Squire Strat. £65. Apart from some fret wear all in good order. (And an excuse to learn fret dessing). As I don't play yet it's also useful to have an instrument to learn on and as a bench mark for design dimensions
I am looking at going to the CBG festival in Holland next year with some of my instruments to sell. Has anyone been previously? I know it is just one day and they reacon they get 700 visitors. Is anyone buying over there. Also is there anywhere to stay for a few nights or can you camp? Lots of questions but the facebook page does not give a lot of info and the website is really just for the biker bar.
My instruments go down really well at festivals here in the UK and I have some overseas buyers. Would welcome some comments folks. Thanks ElGordeaux
With some help from a colleague made the base for my fret cutting jig on a CNC Denford machine in 18mm MDF. I was planning to use a modified off the peg mitre box (straight cut slot obviously :-) but everything I looked at was really flimsy with slots far too wide. Side pieces will be MDF also but the actual cutting guides will be laser cut Perspex if I can get down to a 0.6mm slot.

Off cuts, 50% was unusable, but managed to salvage a reasonable amount.
Thanks David, see pm.

I managed to get a load of of Sapele cuts, 50% scarp, I can send you a couple of pieces for you first build.
Thanks John, I'm determined to make as much of my first build myself even if it ends up as a wall ornament. I've recently become a volunteer at a community "making" facility so have access to all sorts of equipment like CNC controlled router and laser cutter (when I've learned to use them :-), but want to use hand tools. I do have an idea for a novel spacing jig for fret cutting which will need some laser cut templates.
If you need fretboards (blank or slotted) I can do them for you...plus loads other parts.

Making fretboards isn't that hard technically speaking, just hard physical work if you are hand-ripping timber and planing it by hand. Learning to do stuff by hand, from scratch using old-school tools is the way to go in my book, that's the way I learned to make guitars. Despite having a bandsaw, surface planer and a thickensser...I still keep my old Stanley and Record planes nice and sharp!
Thanks, I'll try that. postage costs for a single board pretty well kill mail order though :-(
