I've not tried this method, but those are the labels you are right. The paper under the labels has a waxy feel so I suppose the ink is not absorbed like on regular paper, so it works essentially like potato cutout prints like in infant school, but instead of transferring a shape, you are transferring a complex image? Contact printing essentially.

just had a thought wouldn't this put ink on the wheels(rollers) if done regularly. and finished up with ink all over the rollers and normal printing paper?

I used Avery 3271 Light Fabric transfer for this.
