John i have a book I just play though as long as they let me
It gets progressively worse as I go through

You are practiced up and ready.  I'm no pro, but three things tend to help. 

(1) Stick to song you are confident in

(2) Write down the song list on the back or player side of the guitar.  

(3) Be sure your zipper is up.  Or down if that is your preference.
