I'm almost done with my new guitar. body is made from olive wood. looks really nice.

now for solid guitar a 3 stringer what would be the best gauge string to get a nice mellow sound. finger picking with frets.

bronze coloured strings to  compliment the guitar.

its seems that 42,32 and 24 guage seem to be the norm?

That's some beautiful wood there............

You didn't mention what kind of pickup(s) you will be using. If you are using magnetic pickups instead of piezo, then you will want to stay with nickel strings instead of the bronze. Mags don't respond to bronze so only the inner steel wire of a bronze string excites the pickup. You will lose a good bit of volume if you don't use nickel strings.

As for the string gauges. The three you listed sound great. I use the 42, 32 with a 22 wound hi string. Sounds very mellow.

its a flat pup pick up.

I was rather hoping that I could use gold coloured strings to match the pick up cover, bridge and machine heads.

beatifull wood wait till you see the rest of it.

I'll a little write up on  just to please uncle john and maybe not call us chit heads.lol

It will work, but like Tom said... Big loss of volume...

John, you got a good one goin' right there. That is some great looking wood. If I have seen olive before, I didn't know what I was lookin at. Looks hard, if using hand tools. I machine my stuff but, I was curious.

it rather easy to cut believe it or not.

its rather oily wood.

it was a bread board .

when I saw it in the shop (island of Crete) I had to have it.

didn't anything to it  ,the shape is as is.

the best grain is on the other side but I'm right handed.

you can buy them off ebay.

WOW ! Nice tip on the wood. THANK YOU ! ! !

Ron, I checked those out. If I ever want to put a Rolls Royce hood ornament on a Volkswagen, I now know where to get 'em. LOL
