I think a lot of old drum and fife songs from the English,French and Irish survived though family's and were reused in the revolutionary war with new words and meanings. The cadence and melody remain but the words change in translation or for purpose. I found some cool old war song sites the lyrics are more poetry then song tough to put to music.

Well, the chimesfreedom blog did give some hints to 3 specific hangings during a relatively short three year time frame in the mid-1870's...so the Internet is not completely clueless. ;-)
