Wow,
I guess you are a celebrity yourself! : )
Please post some photos when you have a chance. I am sure you have lots of knowledge to share with the group. I have been building less than 2 years and have built 10 guitars and 11 ukes. I currently build more ukes than guitars, because they are easier to play and easier to sell.
I have been doing my building in the galley of my sailboat, but am going to move my shop ashore.
I would love to see your latest creation, as well as some of the older ones.
Thanks, Gary! Been building for more than 20 years, and even though I'm bound these days to a wheelchair, I still perform and build box instruments. I'm building a really cool one right, now. I've made Lunchbox-A-Leles for a nunber of celebrities including Paul McCartney, Gene Simmons, Greg Hawkes (The Cars), Tony Danza and others. Much Love!
Ray,
Welcome!..Awsome video and music. I hope to see more posts from you. This group is not particularly busy with posts.
Are you building in addition to producing videos?
Introducing myself to this awesome group of fellow "medicine-makers," with my original song, Ukulele Medicine Man! UKE-it UP!
Scott,
When these necks arrive, the end the attaches to the box isn't really finished and not necessarily 90 degrees from the centerline..
To answer your question, the jig is to square up that end, and also get the neck drop to where I like it.
Thanks.
A good day to build a jig. I needed a way to align the Gitty uke neck while cutting the neck end properly. Since the necks are tapered and come in an untrimmed state a jig is necessary. I haven't tried it yet, maybe tomorrow I will beg for a few minutes of chop saw time. I like these necks ok and they save a whole lot of time on a uke build. I discovered that I can install decent tuners in them.
The headstock end of the jig is adjustable for variations in my trimming. I am using an eccentric cam for that. The heel end is fixed. Hope that works out ok. The twin dowells are just so I can load the necks in a consistent manner.
