Looking forward to being able to send messages. Post pictures! Join chat! and all the other things that don't work on this ancient stone tablet of a computer. I might add this ancient computer still works flawlessly. Just to old to update anything anymore.

Oh yes, Apple definitely sells software, (and gives a lot away/bundles it with hardware) and has done all along, for sure. :)

It's been my experience in the past to get windows computers with a lot of useless software installed. It's been a few years for me. The last two windows computers I had were custom builds. But the rest of the windows computers I bought had lots of free software you wish you could delete. And here's another very big difference between the two. Say you install a program into a pc. It now sits happily in your computer. Then one day you decide you don't want it any more. So you think you delete it. And I don't say that lightly. Now your pc has loads of orphaned files, folders and the like. Installing a program in a pc is like buying a can of spray paint. Uninstalling that program is like hitting that can with a shot gun blast. Now I get a program that I think I'd like for my iMac. Install it. Turns out I don't want it. I click on it. Drag it to the trash can. And drop it there. It's gone. No, it's gone. It's completely gone. When I delete everything in the trash that program will not have anything left. Nothing. It's gone. Uninstalling a program on a mac is like changing a light bulb. Once the old lightbulb is gone it's gone.

Well things are falling apart. First Chart launches their new web site Monday. I can still surf the web. ( kinda obvious ) but can't log in to read email and the like. More and more sites and forums are not working for me. It's like this landslide of one thing after another. Building momentum every hour. I was able to post on one forum yesterday. Today I'm not. Sites I was on a few weeks ago wont even open. I feel like I'm only a few steps ahead. Watching rocks roll past me on both sides as I try to beat all this. And not get berried at the bottom of the hill. I'll be surprised if I can even look at the internet by the time my new computer is set up and running. : ).

In preparation I've saved all 2200+ bookmarks and web links. Divided up into the 47 categories I have them sorted now. I contacted a rep today. He told me I shouldn't have any problem with my email. He also said they have not heard of anyone having issues with links and bookmarks migrating between the old and new. However no one out there has a browser as old as mine. : ) Hopefully all mine will be fine as well. If it takes me 40 seconds to copy, paste, open and save each link it'll take over 24 hours to reinstall all those links.

Better brew a lot of coffee !  :-/

are you using an older build of safari? It can export your bookmarks to a file ;)
tell me what you'r old machine is running, I may be able to help.

I am assuming you are using an old G4 or G5 power PC processor mac ... Pre intel. If so, go download the browser TenFourFox. This is a fork of Firefox by an independant developer updated just for power PC processors. It will buy you some time and also maybe make bookmarks more moveable.

Kid, yes. I'm on Safari 5. I'm using Mountain Lion 10.5.8

I copied the links by individual folder to a spread sheet. The spread sheet translated them into what you see with http;// and all. Then recopied the translations to a 'pages' file. Dropped this file into a burn folder. Then got them all on cd.

does that safari not have an 'export bookmarks' menu item in the 'file' menu?  if so you can get a file from there and just drop it on safari icon in the dock on your new one.

Failing that I'd suggest booting your old machine in target disc mode (hold down T while booting) connect it up to your new one with a firewire400-firewire800 cable (you'll need one of those anyway) and run the 'immigration assistant' application on your new mac, that should import your whole user account.

Ps you're running 'lion', Mountain Lion came later, and did not support the powerPCs..

PS2 I have an old copy of LionServer here if you want it to use your old one for that

Thanks mate. I've got an ice cream bucket full of un-used pickups already, but I've never had a beer can amp.

Thanks KId! I never knew what that export function was really for. Your a genius!!! Now if I get this right I could do the same with my music? I went in and seen iTunes has the same export function. Been on a mac for years and still learning new things. Awesome!

David, this one has an intel processor. 2.66 GHz Intel duo. With 2GB of ram! I had a choice of what brand of processor and chose intel. At the time I was thinking of using boot camp. Have windows in this computer for familiarity. Incase I had a hard time with this operating system. Never happened. Once you go mac, you never go back. : )

Wayfinder, Hopefully still on line till the new one is up and running. I'd go crazy. You'd hear about me on the news. : )

Wayfinder, wish I was ale to hear one of your can amps at the KC CBG fest.

Finally was able to get in and get to my email today. The problem was on my side of the net. My browser keeps switching over to not excepting cookies when I tried to log on. It may do this again. But at least I know how to fix it. Got the shipping info I needed. 4 Days and counting! I feel like I'm waiting for Santa. : )

MY New iMac is here!!!! Christmas came three days early! : ) Now I got to rush over and get that fire wire cable you told me about Kid. Get this thing up and running.

Thanks everyone for your help and support. And for putting up with me trying to keep up with this ancient browser.
