Why do I make videos? Why do I get comments? Why does some of the best stuff get few comments?

Why do I make videos?

It is fun to play and sing  just for my self.   But sometimes many players and singers want an AUDIENCE.   In fact, we would like an audience that pays some attention - more like a concert  than playing a bar or restaurant and being pretty much back ground music.

Thanks to CBN, I have an audience.   Better yet, it is a friendly and tolerant audience.

I also enjoy learning new songs and playing them.  Some times they get added to my repertoire and some times they are soon forgotten.

CBN videos are also a song writer's community.

Why do I get comments and some likes?

CBN is a social network.  I try to  responds to other folk's videos, photos and posts.  I develop friends and relationships.  Some of those folks tend to respond back to my posts.  A social network is a bit like real life.

Additionally, I try not to waste people's times.  I edit the vid so you don't have to wait 20 seconds for the content to start.   I often post lyrics and chords with vids.  People like that.   No matter how clear the singer puts out the lyrics, folks will not hear them all clearly.

When I post a photo, I try to put up info.  I try to tell the truth.  Not everything I build plays well!

Why does some of the best stuff get few comments?

Again, it is a social network.   Something good will get looks and comments at least the first few times the person post.  .  If the poster does not respond to others, he or she soon gets few comments back.

You will not see any of my youth, women or minorities. My youth are at school, my woman is here with me in bed, and I am already a minority where I live. ;-)

Uncle John, you are the Ambassador of all that is well, right and good on CBN.  I got a couple uncles, but I think you might be my favorite.  :)

Yup, I second that!

Thanks, Eric.   Don't expect birthday presents.

You're videos are more than sufficient and I don't have to wait until January to get them.  The gift that gives the whole year 'round.

I just want to Share My Music with My Friends and anyone Who would like to listen , I love to play and write Songs It's just part of Who I I'm What I do. I really appreciate The Word's of encouragement From All The Talented Folks on GBN an love to Watch There Video's . I try to respond to other folk's Video's as best I can . I am kinda a Shy person and just not very good at this Social Thing trying to get better writing is easy for Me but talking to folks has always been hard for Me Always think I'm Gon na say something stupid or what I want to say comes out wroung, and can't spell worth a flip.

True dat, James.   Forget about spelling.  No worry.

Nobody who writes and perform music can go for long without some kind of feedback,  it is important to interact with some kind of audience, though sticking to traditional forms will get the most feedback, anything too out of the ball park will not get much of a response, but that's showbiz !  CBN is not ready for Prog quite yet! ;-)

Videos can complement  a song and help focus on the music and enhance things up but it should be about the  song...

For sure.   Steve, I put you in that category of folks who have evolved big time.   A triple for you.  Playing singing and song writing.   I think maybe you live by, "Keep calm and play the blues."

I sure do enjoy coming here and being part of such a cool community. . Ya know what drew me here in the first place was my curiosity for Bo Diddly's square guitar. Then everything changed...I looked around ....read a few instructions....listened to a few videos...found out what the guitar was actually called...seen an instruction for a 3 stringer, and thought....what the hell...I can build something that simple...I played a bit of six string very badly...and everyone was saying 3 string slide was the way to go....and I'd be playing in no time...So about 3 months later I had finished my biggest mistake....build # 1. Everything was loose....I messed up the box and tried to recover...FAIL!....but I asked what my mistakes were....got great support ...and ended up with my now Longhorn 3 stringer that plays so sweet...I like Oily don't play other's music....I just feel I'm not the guy to be ruining someone else's song....and since I started getting a handle on cbg's and their tunings...I started writing songs and the music for them. I feel it's all due to being a member here....The inspiration here is incredible...and the fellowship is par none...but, Like Darryl I do have a demon that haunts me when it come's to posting video's of my own music...But I know as fact...whether your scared or you suck or you just wanna be apart...you'll never be put down, or steered in the wrong direction... there's always...ALWAYS someone willing to take the time too help. I've built almost 30 guitar's since I arrived here..and everyday is a new experience for me, and every time I build, I come here for guidance.....I'm hoping that my video's will come a little faster now that I'm able to play a little better.

Thanks Everyone,

Let's keep making this place worth the visit!

Reeds I saw Bo play that square guitar in London some years ago, man it was loud! ;-)

Reeds, I agree with most of what you said.   I disagree about not doing other people's songs because you might screw them up.   I think the story on Bob Dylan was that he was accused of being a Woody Guthrie juke box.  He tried to do the songs like Woody.   I think he would have been better making the songs his own.  Well, he took the criticism and started doing his own songs.   Worked out okay for him.

I want to honor the old blues men or women when I do their songs.   I think I do so.  But I don't have the skills or even desire to do it 'just like old so and so.'   I want to make their song my own when I do it.   Shit, 95% of the songs I do I could not play well enough to do it like old so and so.

That offends some 'purists'.  Too bad.  :)
