Why do I make videos? Why do I get comments? Why does some of the best stuff get few comments?

Why do I make videos?

It is fun to play and sing  just for my self.   But sometimes many players and singers want an AUDIENCE.   In fact, we would like an audience that pays some attention - more like a concert  than playing a bar or restaurant and being pretty much back ground music.

Thanks to CBN, I have an audience.   Better yet, it is a friendly and tolerant audience.

I also enjoy learning new songs and playing them.  Some times they get added to my repertoire and some times they are soon forgotten.

CBN videos are also a song writer's community.

Why do I get comments and some likes?

CBN is a social network.  I try to  responds to other folk's videos, photos and posts.  I develop friends and relationships.  Some of those folks tend to respond back to my posts.  A social network is a bit like real life.

Additionally, I try not to waste people's times.  I edit the vid so you don't have to wait 20 seconds for the content to start.   I often post lyrics and chords with vids.  People like that.   No matter how clear the singer puts out the lyrics, folks will not hear them all clearly.

When I post a photo, I try to put up info.  I try to tell the truth.  Not everything I build plays well!

Why does some of the best stuff get few comments?

Again, it is a social network.   Something good will get looks and comments at least the first few times the person post.  .  If the poster does not respond to others, he or she soon gets few comments back.

Greg, if you do post, people tend to be encouraging and seldom unkind.  We all started somewhere.  A lot of us would speak out if someone is unduly unkind.

+1

I'm with Greg on this, the thought of putting a video of myself on here, just fills me with horror, that may change one day,but till then i'll just enjoy the variety and enthusiasm of those that do.Some very talented players amongst this group.

Do it.  Just do it.  I force myself to play on a video.  Then, I even forced myself to post a video of me singing.  It was terrible.  And it is still out there on the internet somewhere.  And there have been a lot more.  And they are all better.  Almost listenable now.  Almost.  :)

But you need the evidence for yourself to show improvement.

Uncle John says "turn your give a shitter way down low."  So do that, then hit record.  No one is going to be mean.

Hmm.  Do it if you are tempted.  What I find hardest is playing at local jams where there are some really good musicians and singers.   With a vid, you get do-overs if you want.  It's interesting to watch the progress of people.  Some of them get good in a short time.  Bug certainly comes to mind.  Lately Mr. C.   He was kind of rough early on and now he's really good.   Eric, Badfinger - seems like he's gotten a lot better.

Most of us are better than we think we are.  And a few of us are not as good as we think!

creating music with a self made CBG, participating on this sight, posting music by way of video, has been one of the most meaningful things i have ever done !!! thats why i post videos, and im sure ther may be some less than helthy  reasons too,lol

Wow, James.   I guess I have to say, "Me too.'

I don't post too many vids. It's rare for me to find enough time and quiet to do one, and when I do, it usually means there's been several days / weeks of practice before I feel comfortable putting one out there. It's the perfectionist in me. Plus, I prefer to do original tunes, and that's where the days and weeks come in. I've tried teaching people to play guitar, and I don't have the patience for it, so I leave that to others. Also also wik, I like complicated music, and that's not to everyone's taste.

I don't comment a whole lot on other people's vids, because there are soooo many to look at. And the ones I do, it takes a coon's age to load due to 1) slow Internet speeds here, 2) I'm usually on an iPad, which means Flash vids don't work, 3) not everyone posts their vids on YouTube first (for example, I haven't viewed RTZ's excellent vids in years, which bums me out as he is a great player), and 4) slow Internet speeds here, plus being behind a corporate firewall. So I tend to gravitate toward textual Discussions, and a few pics that interest me, as well as communicating directly with people who have become friends and close acquaintances here over time.

I do try to welcome newbies, and try to offer commentary that is enlightening, funny, factual, or all three. Sometimes I fail. I like doing web searches for people who seem to lack that skill or persistence, and usually find something relevant.

I'm just as much, if not more, of a ham as the rest of you, so Comments are always welcome, especially when I ask for them as a source of self-improvement.

I experiment with facial hair.

Mynd you, møøse bites Kan be pretti nasti

Those responsible for sacking those who were sacked, have been sacked.

Wot?   LOL.

Ron an important part of what you said is the welcoming of newbys.    I hope to see more your youth, women and minorities.
