Hold the shaft of the rivet with a pair of pliers and whack the nail part on the concrete floor. It will knock the nail part out, and then you can use it as a zero fret.

Many of you mention using pop rivets for lining string guide holes in the tail. My dumb question is "How do you remove the 'nail' from the tube without a pop rivet gun?" I tried snipping the end of but it won't pull out of the tube.

Craig, I'm still working on my first one. I left did like you and left some neck wood on both inside ends of the cigar box. Then to secure the neck to the lid I drilled a pilot hole through the lid and neck in the two places where there was wood under the lid. Then screwed in a screw and beauty washer into each hole.

The tutorial sounds great, Sam. I see what you mean about the blocks. Your lid still contacts the neck at the same points I have, but is free of it. Would you place the piezo pickup between the neck and lid or to the side?

picture worth a thousand words.....

This builds a super stable (braced) box/neck unit, .... then when you string it up, you generally don't need to glue/screw/nail down the lid.... the string tension does it for you.... and... you still have access to the box for repair/adjustment... the best, Wichita Sam
