OK I'm not musically gifted, not a clue how music suppose to sound.(seeing that I'm partially tone deaf and have been all my life and yes I do wear hearing aids but only when watching TV)

if it sound OK to me but be way out to some one who knows.

does it really matter if the intonation is not correct say from the open to the 12th fret it is GDG but the rest is not.

all I know of intonation is high 'n' low in sounds

the reason why I'm asking is that my little 3 sting acoustic that I converted from a 6 stringer.

it is Tune GDG  in open to fretted 12th but all others are not is this normal?

set by my tuner 439 HZ

frets......

3rd      C ,F,B             (all just past the green onto red mark)

5th      C,G,C

7th      D,A,D

9th      E,B,E

12th    G,D,G  spot on

its a cheap 3/4 acoustic with a flat fret board with brass frets.

it probably only cost about £30/£40 it was nade in the czech republic.

I've since removed the plastic nut and put a bolt on and cut the  bridge down as it was sitting to high.

also the bolt some how made it sound better...well it did to me.

This was from a '70's Bill Cosby comedy riff. Kinda makes me wonder what he allegedly told those poor women he allegedly did not have sexual relations with.

My point was that the scale length is probably not the same

Michael,

Correctamundo. Was just trying to get Dr. Mackay to think through the problem in all its grandeur before severing the spleen. ;-)

now ya starting to confuse me!

I said centre no! from as per drawing by Mr f Johnson now you say where the nut touches the string!

when I said I'll cut a piece wood out I meant enough to fit a new piece for the 6mm bolt to sit as I've no room for the bolt other wise the strings will be rubbing the frets.

the plastic nut is only a small piece as it broke up with it being brittle when I took it apart, the rest of is in the bin or was.

I need to get this right as I don't want to make more only to find that the buggers are way out.

I think our collective intention is to help a fellow member. Each has good merits. Bottom line is do as you wish, but be sure about it before physically altering the whole shebang.

OK 1st of all the neck is bent at about the 12th fret.

upon checking the stewmac fret etc. the fretts are 1mm out from the nut all the way up towards the sound hole.

no trus rod is fiited so not much I can do about that.

I set the tuner to 440 and that made a noticeable different ... open gdg,12th frets its just over gdg.

I don't think there's much I can do to this guitar with it being bent.

anyway thanks for being patient with me.

as for being tone deaf its not quite that bad.

I have problem hearing high notes/low notes but it between I'm ok.

I've had hearing problems since being a baby due to catching pneumonia .

whispering I cannot make out even into my ear.so that'll give you some idea.

thats enough of me!
