Now I can't decide which one I want for Christmas! Awesome pics Anonymous pick. No sharp turns in the truck now. Might end up sounding really bad. : )
Well I was in love with the early 90's Rat pedal when I got it. Way back in the early 90's. Now I'm in love with the Soothsayer box. It's like having a family of Rats. Each with a slightly different joyous voice. Running it on low gain. More of a rhythm guitar thing. It has a three position switch with a set of internal switches. Center and right position are 'no clipping' and Asymmetrical. I can choose between LEDs and or Symmetrical clipping for the left position. It's as creamy as broken glass and gravel. Just like the Rat this pedal is pure crunch.
Played around with the DS-1. Not quite getting the spitting distortion for my dead battery sim as on the vid. Have to admit, was more interested in the Soothsayer. What can I say when it's love at first sound?
Sweet horrors of distorted souls. The sound of rabid dogs vomiting and snarling at the same time. Dying werwolves choking on their own blood. These wonderful little boxes of sonic beauty. Guess beauty is in the eyes or ears of the beholder. :) I have found more of the sounds I'm looking for.
The Devi Ever 'Vintage Fuzz Master'.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG75vAazeYQ
Even though this video is by Devi herself it doesn't do this sonic horror justus. There is a vid on youtube of a guy using this pedal with a drum machine. It was that video that let me know this was a box for me. That vid is very long and boring. That's the reason I didn't post it. This thing vomits and spits wile singing love songs. This pedal makes a single note sound bigger than a bar cord. This pedal would be almost impossible to use in a two guitar band.
Earthquaker Devices 'Dirt Transmitter'.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9i17dTQGmo
good stuff starts at about 3:50
This pedal can spit and squawk. Then go all the way up to supper smooth wooly fuzz. The setting on it are way more versatile than any one vid on youtube has covered.
Voodoo Lab 'Proctavia'.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yukcuq45cE
There is only one video on youtube that has this pedal where it's supposed to be. In front of a supper distorted Marshall amp. Can't find it. By itself this pedal is lame. However this vid does give you a good idea of what this pedal does. To actually hear what this pedal would sound like listen to Jimi Hendrix Purple Haze. That's what it sounds like when you use it right. Turn the pedal volume up all the way. Turn the boost to 9 o:clock. Turn your amps distortion till it goes no farther. I chose this pedal because it's sonically accurate to the original Proctavia Hendrix used.
and all this sound without having to use my dead battery simulator.......
All three of these boxes are horrors of sonic blasphemy. In combination with each other or other boxes they rip all the kindness out of your soul. Visions of your own doom become a divine comedy. OK, I'll leave the poetry behind. :). What these pedals do is make your guitar sound huge. Perhaps a better term would be thick. There is so much sonically going on it sounds like there's more there. Everyone knows there's a difference in the fullness of sound between a clean cord and a distorted one. Distortion makes a cord sound fuller. It sonically messes with your hearing. Fuzz layers that effect. To the point where it's best to use it wisely in a two guitar band. Rolling Stones 'Satisfaction'. Great use of over saturated Fuzz on one guitar. Had both guitars used the same settings it would have sounded like oatmeal in a wind tunnel.
I'm extremely happy with all three of these boxes. Will this be the end of my search? Nope, fraid not. Got a Catelinbread 'Dirty Little Secret MIII' on the way...... LOL
If your interested in fuzz there's really no one who can help. Everyone has different ideas and likes. Jimi Hendrix, George Thorrogood, Rolling Stones, Frigid Pink, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Cream, all used fuzz at one time or all the time. All sound different. Your best bet is to do as much research as you can. Youtube is great. Go to big box guitar stores and try a few there. Find a sound you like and go for it.
Why do I have all these boxes? Most of it is to make me happy. Most of them will never make it on stage with me. Not needed. Because no one will be able to tell the difference between a WIIO or a Dirty Little Secret box. People hear distortion. Not the subtle difference within the sound wave. I'm a distorted junky. I love those subtle differences.
and now for something completely different ...
lol enjoy ;-)
back on topic , you might wanna have a talk with farmer ted , here's a demo of one of his boxes i got from him .

Nice sounding fuzz Anonymous. I'll have to post some audio files of the sounds I can get using a piezo pickup.
Really like the sound Farmer's got going on. And it's got a great sound with piezos. Guess that's what your using in the sound vid? WAY better than what i can get with the boxes I have.
My search has lead me to a brand new offering from Devi Ever. Atomizer. This is not a pedal for those seeking fuzzy goodness. Even at it's lowest setting it chews threw your head. Fell in love the first time I heard it. Took less than two minutes. Check out the sound video link below. Playing thew it is an amazing experience. Your guitar controls become part of the pedal itself. Unfortunately the Atomizer does not work with piezos.
not a piezo , and i forget what guit i used for that lol , but it was a mag .
you can get one from ted http://www.cigarboxnation.com/profile/ScottakaFarmerTed
i believe he has another foot switchable option model .
he hasnt been on here for a while . life got in the way . but if ya friend and email , im sure he will reply .
Not a piezo? Hopes dashed again. The low output and high impedance of a piezo is it's greatest downfall with fuzz.
A humbucker will always be smoother than a single coil. Because of it's higher output. To get the same raspy sound from a humbucker you have to use a high pass cap on your guitar's volume knob. This allows the higher frequencies to pass threw as you turn the volume down.
The Electro Harmonix Germanium OD is more of an overdrive pedal. I've checked out vids on youtube. Looks like most people have to turn the gain (volume) all the way up to get a good overdrive sound. In other words they have to overdrive their amp. However I do see how the bias and volt controls would help bring out a harsh sound out of a piezo. Looks like I'll have to bring a CBG into a music store and try one out.
