Hi Guys,

I am 60, never played an instrument, cannot "read" music...

BUT I will build a cbg around a nice little box I have, 9.5 x 6 x1.7 inch (approx. I live in a "metric" country).

I did read that such a small box is not ideal but also not a problem on its own and can be made in a CBG.

I would start out with fret-less and also without piezo/mag pickup. So really something to simply learn to play on that thing.

What I am a little confused about is the length between the bridge and nut. If I use the "standard" (-+ 25"?) will my contraption with small box not be to awkward or sound silly?

If I make it say 21 or 22" will I be able to tune it to GdG and learn actually something or would I have to tune (and use special string) for that shorter neck? Or another key maybe?

Thank and sorry if this is the millionth time this question has been asked.

Ronny

God, that was boring. Read the forums. ;-)
you knew someone was gonna say it...

Yes!!! Just a little surprised it took that long. ;-)

My Internet's been down the last 3 days ;-).

Got nowt to add, as the replies are spot on. Go forth and build. Screw something up, and fix it. >:-E

Story of my life, except for de "fix it" part

hey Ronny I learned more since I was 60 than ever before - and it ain't boring! ..go for it :-)

btw go and see Hollowbelly and Chickenbone John on 29th in your country - you should have a chat with them too..

your not alone Ron,I'm 63 this week end and still can't play or read music.

and I'm still learning and always asking question some even repeated because this grey matter of mine at times fail to register what being said and yet I can remember every detail in what I make for motorbikes.

its probably due to that I'm on it most the time.

it takes time Ron and most of all patience to get the hang of things and I'm sure that you and I will grasp it sooner or later.

keep asking and you will receive so the good lord said

Hi all,

I would love to go see see Hollowbelly and Chickenbone John and hope nothing will come in between. It should be a great help getting some pro advice on cbg's.

And yes, learning at a certain age becomes more difficult but is feasible if given the time.

Thanks for the great support.

As far as learning new things goes, being stubborn helps, relax and just keep plugging along until you get to where you want to be.

Point is never give up and keep asking questions if you don't understand something. Chances are eventually somebody will answer in a way that makes sense to you.

Doesn't matter if another person learns a thing in 15 minutes and it takes you 15 hours to learn the same thing at the end of the day you both know the thing.

Keep childlike wonder, stubborn persistence, and the perpetual student attitude of the Zen master foremost in your endeavor. Then learn to play, simply, from your heart. It will satisfy more than all the theory you'd wished you'd learned.

What I really, really, really would like is understanding and speaking all languages in the world. Wouldn't that be great!  Just think about he possibilities...

Great comments guys,well done
