CBN friends, I've been off the nation and missing it. Bad flare up of the hand arthritis and no playing for a while. Being here on the nation makes me miss playing so much that I have stayed away.

Back today and catching up on some good stuff. I hope to get a cortisone shot in the thumb Monday and be back playing. Maybe will need surgery in 2015.

OK team, huddle up.  Our captain and all around #1 guy is on the DL for a little while, so everybody's going to have to step up their game until Unc gets back.  We're gonna need some videos with lyrics and chords posted, fun originals that tell a story, some Sunday morning Gospel, engaging commentary and a bunch of extra 'atta boys' from all of you.  Obviously, we can't replace the leadership and passion that he brings to the game, but if we come together as a team, we just might be able to weather this storm and keep the train on the tracks until UJ is cleared by the doctors.

We just gotta take it one day at a time, and use this adversity to keep us focused on our goals.  And at the end of the day, if we leave it all on the field, it is what it is. Now hit the showers, go home and learn Titties and Tires and come back tomorrow ready to make Uncle John proud! 1-2-3 GO TEAM!

Seriously though.  Major bummer John.  Take care of yourself and get well soon.

Thanks, Matthew and Hedley.   Seems many of us are banged up in some way or another.   Will try to take a look at that soapbox album.

That's not good news, John. I do hope things get better and you're able to strum away again.

I know the frustration, as I get horrible fatigue in my left hand as a side effect of pills I have to take. This has seriously curtailed my dreams of becoming a performing artist, when after three songs my hand freezes up and becomes immovable.

When I was asked to play a 45 minute sat at last year's Boxstock, I really worried that I would be unable to play for that long. But I found that shifting between instruments every two of three songs helped a lot. So, it might be a sort of RSI. Maybe I'll have a word with my Doc, to see if there might be anything I can do.

With you being off the Nation recently, I'm not sure you will have seen the release of the Soapbox: Rants and Raves album. It's really worth downloading as there are some cracking original songs on the album. This is my contribution: http://www.cigarboxnation.com/video/you-d-better-watch-your-step?xg...

wow, so sorry to hear you are hurting my friend. Hope the shot helps. I have had several times myself and sometimes it helps. Mine is in the hip though. Still hang in there and get well. We all miss you here and will send all the good energy we have.

Clock, that ointment tastes like wolf piss.  Oh.  Ointment.   Oops.  Will try rubbing it in.  Should have read the instructions.    Gees, Hound, that sucks.

Yup, Waldo, low on gription here too.  I can still bench press my fat-ass weight a few times, but need help getting the peanut butter open.   Thanks, Richard and David.

Dave, I forgot about brick grip - I did a lot of landscaping brick work in October and that did start off this trouble.   Then a mad weekend of really getting into uke blues finished off the left hand.   SIX months.   Mmmm.

Uncle John, it is nice to see how your friends are responding to you plight. Seems like you have quite a few fellow players and builders with similar pains. I've had mine for a long time. Building a wood kiln really did it for me. I got "brick grip". It's never really gone away, but i find swimming every day helps a lot and i can still play. The motion of using my hand as a paddle helps. I do it for 50 minutes every day. I'm heading over to the pool soon. I sauna, shower and swim (gently in a warm "therapy pool") at our fitness center. Maybe you have such a place near you. Please put off surgery if possible. It took 6 months before my brick grip lessened. Time can do a lot to heal. Lots of time. Just stay away from nailing, drilling, and the screw driver. Use a light slide bar and strum. Harmonica works nice too. And sing the blues..... Dave
