Hi Folks, This is the group to share everything about the three string guitar.
If you have had problems in the past playing regular guitar, try playing a three string guitar, they are much easier and the have a vintage sound that is super unique and easy to capture that old school blues sound.
There is another website on the net that has a lot more 3 string guitar information. Here is the link to the website 3-string-guitar.com

How do flat wounds sound on an acoustic build? Here's a good test...take a twenty dollar bill and throw it out the window while driving your car/truck. That "whoosh" sound made by losing an extra Andrew Jackson will pretty much tell the tale. Flat wounds are more expensive, and meant for magnetic pickup electric guitars, primarily. But experimentation is all about discovery. Give it a go...may be a hoot.
Soooo, how do flatwounds sound on an acoustic build ?
I install a banding between the box halves to thicken the box up to about two inches. You can see some pics of that at my page.
icIf you do a standard thru-body cbg neck, try a surface mount pickup like a flatpup by Elmer or a Sleeptalker by Dan Sleep. Or try doing a bolt on style neck, which allows plenty of room for a traditional pickup. Piezos are fine for an easy build, but why not try something challenging?
I picked up some new boxes two are only an inch and a half thick, any suggestions for fitting everything like pups neck etc. In the box.
I'm leaning toward the racoon theory. Randall, are we talking more about a string vibration or a string buzz?
To Randall: vibrations might be from poor seating of strings in the nut slots or at the bridge. Or it may be from a lack of enough break angle of the strings at either location. A third possibility is there is a wild raccoon loose in the box and it wants out...hehe
Not sure what you mean about the string "vibration". I set the action up on my guitars at 2/64ths at the first fret and about 6/64ths on the 17th fret. That is a little low by some standards and maybe too low for very aggressive slide. But I like to play a lot of finger-style and think my setup is a good compromise. I guess my customers do as well (www.biglerguitars.com). I do use a hardtail bridge with adjustable saddles so folks can further tweak the action. But your vibration could be coming from something else I suppose. You got a picture of your guitar?
