Thanks James, I know this is not everyone favorite song the subject mater is just to much . The truth is In 100 years this song will hurt as much as it did in 1971.

1-6 the difference between the 3 and 4 string is the biggest sonic change to me. Mountain Dulcimer people feel this way. I like having the root note in the bass string when I can, DGBE is great for the key of D and G for me and tuning the E down to D gives you a good run on open G. I need to do some more string tests maybe a A string tuned down to G in the bass on a 3 its endless.

Ha, I am the opposite.  I like my 3 string finger picking sound and don't like my six string chicken picking.

Thanks John, I have been on a finger pickin kick lately but it doesn't translate to 3 string very well.
