I'm sorry you had a bad music teacher and your parents didn't understand enough to find you a more suitable one.
Wasn't insulting your parents, sorry you took it that way.
in my opinion -- music is not just 'math that makes pretty sounds'
-- music is where science meets art.
-- like cooking or carving or welding or sculpture.. (etc)
so its... magic...
of course there will be those (like you ) who claim to reject the science, who claim to them it is only the art.
but are they being truthful to themselves??
or do they, in their isolated ignorance, through a slow gradual process of trial and error, formulate their own version of the 'music theory' that they so desperately avoid. Why ?? well, while we're being honest lets call it what it is.. fear...
Please see the introduction to ch1 of my 'i see threes' blog. You cannot reject music theory anymore than you can just casually reject the laws of physics. Surely we don't all belong on the big bang theory. But at the same time Im sure we'll all put our keys down on the kitchen table and expect that table to keep those keys off the floor. Similarly if you suspend a guitar string between two points and tension it to a pitch you are employing music theory whether you recognise it as such or not.
The answer to the question is this, no there is no chart. Except the scale. The roman numerals indicate an index to the parent scale, where a note scale or chord is derived. It'd be nice if people focused on the question eh, might not require four pages to answer it. :)
There was a question? o_O
Scruggy my friend, you need to ask more questions! Your simple inquiry has brought out everything from help to absurdity. YOU HAVE THE NACK! : ) I really hope your able to make some progress.
Another classic blues progression is 1. 2, 4, Play this as open A Bm and D. The 5th cord would be the open E. Remember if the 1 cord is a major then the second cord will be minor. The fourth and fifth cords will be major. Knowing this you can play this in every key on the guitar. No matter which cord the progression starts on.
And speaking of absurdity. :+) I may not know everything about music theory. But not only did I help explain Scruggy's original question. I taught him two songs. And I helped explain cord progressions when trying to learn things by hearing them. I WIN! I'm the greatest! I'm the greatest answerer on the thread! Pick up your guitars and solute me! Then jam those two songs to your hearts content! Go and learn those Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Voughan cord progressions! Because I'm the greatest and I said so. : )
Who's your dady? I am
Who's your dady? I am
Who's your dady? I am
Now back to the show.
You certainly are, all hail the rat we salute you!!!!
All bow before The Mighty Rat! Tremble in great and grievous dread at his magnificent roar!
(You do know this means I'll start directing everyone with a question to you right?)
