As done here, I= C, IV=F, and V = G

He built a closet on [I] our back porch & put a penny in a [V] burned out [I] fuse.

[IV] Grandpa was a carpenter He built houses stores and [I] banks

[IV] Chain smoked Camel [I] cigarettes &hammered nails in [V] planks

He was [I] level on the level. He shaved even every [IV] door

He voted for Eisen [I] hower cause Lincoln [V] won the [I] war.

He used to sing me Blood on the Saddle & rock me on his [IV] knee
And let me listen to [I] radio Before we got Tee [V] Vee.
He'd [[I] drive to church on Sunday & take me with him [IV] too.
Stained glass in every [I] window. Hearing aids in [D] every [G] pew.

Now grandma was a teacher Went to school in Bowling [C] Green
Traded in a [G] milking cow for a Singer sewing ma- [V] chine
She [I] called her husband 'Mister' And walked real tall & [IV] proud
She used to buy me [I] comic books After [V] grandpa [I] died.

Thanks, Jim.  I was thinking of you today- hoping you would be back soon.   Hope you had a fun and productive summer and hope to see some instruments and vids from you.

PS: Vinyl.  I am a pretty big Guy Clark fan too.   And a fan of Jerry Jeff Walker doing Guy's songs.

Nice rendition John! Takes me back about 40 years. Got that one on vinyl back when it came out...used to listen to it over and over.

Marvellous performance, John. That's a great song of Prine's that I'm not familiar with. It kind of reminds me of Desperados Waiting for a Train by Guy Clark and The Sands of Iwo Jima by The Drive-By Truckers, songs which document the passing of a generation.

Have you heard the Drive-By Truckers? You might like some of their stuff like this:
