AWESOME TURTLE............

Thanks James and James O.

I remember that post Slow and I'm happy to be reading it again now and putting it all together.  As a fellow suburban kid, I'm envious that you were introduced to the old time country/bluegrass at a fairly early age from one of your peers.  It's one thing to go search it out yourself, but it's a whole other thing when somebody is showing you how to do it first hand in your bedroom or on the front porch.

Thanks Turtle.

My buddy Dave taught me how to hear and feel the music. Plus, he turned me on to music that just wasn't the norm for a city suburb kid like myself. I actually mentioned him in my response to this thread just under your response (4th paragraph).

I broke out some old cassette tapes last night, dusted off the old stereo deck and went down memory lane. Have our first few shows together when we were 15 back in 1984 as well as many others. I cried, laughed and cried and laughed at the same time. Hadn't listen to those things in 20 or more years. Was surprised the tapes and the tape player even worked. I plan to convert them over to digital in the coming days.

Your video would have been the first thing I played for him. I'm sure he would have gotten the biggest kick out of it.

Sounds good man nice playing

Thanks folks.  I've been enjoying this C6 tuning all week and it works just fine on a CBG - I'm tuned ACE using the high three strings (GBE) from a standard set.  It's a whole 'nother way to play slide and for me it's a little more natural than 151.  I almost named this one the wes carl waltz.

Oily - my 3/4 time always seems to veer toward a polka feel no matter what I do, so cheers.

Sorry to hear about your friend Slow.  Sounds like he would've fit right in around here.  The lap/pedal sound is something I've always loved. Clean, pure and full of sorrow.  You have some of that sound and feel in your playing and I gotta believe that your buddy was an influence in some way.  And then your playing is an influence on myself and others around here, so his sound keeps moving on down the road.

I knew from the title and you doing, it that I would like.. I do.   That tuning is pretty nice.   I know Wes C and Dave Lynas use it.   Lovely, man.

Sorry for your loss SlowHound.  I've lost 2 friends - not real close, but friends in the past 2 weeks.   One to depression and his own hand - he was always so kind and good to others.  And one after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

Oily, a beer sounds good.  Since yer a Texan, how about a Shiner Bock.   Better see a neurologist about that yodeling thing.

Wow Turtle. You just don't know how this affects me at the moment.

I learned late last night that my best friend from high school past away.

Versed in many musical instruments, he was a master of the pedal steel guitar and studied under the tutelage of Buddy Charlton of the Earnest Tubb band. He played in Country Current for six years as well as countless other bands and recording sessions.

Dave could make the steel cry like no other.

We had lost touch in the last few years and I hate myself for it. I was really hoping to reconnect with him this fall and started to look him up when I ran across his obit. I was devastated and also pissed that his family never reached out to me.

Also a master carpenter, he would have loved the CBG vibe.

I'm sad that I'll never get to share it with him.

Sorry for the rant. This really hit me hard but in a good way.
