lacquer over the top? I just let the labels get beat up as I play. I'm only careful when I play the ones I build for other people.

This could be a present so I'd like to keep the label from getting too messed up. Certainly cool looking messed up a little .....so laquer wow. Well what about glue and water like Elmer's glue but slightly watered down? Bad idea? I'd rather not buy laquer just liquor...

Some thin CA glue will work on the edges of a peeling label.  I put just a bit on and then used a toothpick to hold the label down while it dries.  You can also use a shot of accelerant.

good old fashioned paper glue then lacquer over, works for me! (-:
