kewl .  ;-)

My next entry is the rusty special...saple neck,

I tried to post this once but it didn't take. I hope it doesn't post twice.

This is my new Soprano Ukulele that I built specifically for this contest. I know it looks kind of plain but It sounds really good. I normally wouldn't give a box this small a second glance but a good friend of mine gave me the box and was excited at the prospect of me building something with it.

I wanted to keep as much of the sound board as I could, so I cut the sound hole into the side. I worked out great. This baby is pretty loud for a soprano and has a great tone.

I always try to use as much recycled materials as I can. It's a personal challenge.

Specs:

Ashton Cigar box, recycled oak trim for the neck, finger board and bridge, #4 flat head screws for position markers, #2 screws for side markers, 5/16 brass screw for the nut, "0" fret, 10 penny nail for the saddle.

Behold, Dr. Who's TARDIS!                                                                                                                                               I built this for my sons birthday. It was built from a Arturo box, all door trim, caps, windows made from poplar.13 1/2 scale mahogany neck [my second fret job] Lots of hours but worth every one.                                                                                                                                                                            Heatmiser

That is AWESOME! Love the creative work! My geeky wife & daughters would approve, too!

All that work payed off. Great job.

I do not watch doctor who. I still really approve of this build. It looks awesome.

I just built this concert uke for a friend as my first commissioned instrument. The tuning machines are from a broken classical neck I got from a flea market, the bridge and nut are salvaged as well. The neck is red oak and the headstock is red oak and poplar, all stained using several coats of a red wine and red wine vinegar mixture and a final coat of a mixture of white vinegar, steel wool, onion skins, and pennies. I used a gitty fingerboard as I wanted that to be sure that it was right.

Top picture is pre-stain.

This Fairy Dust Uke was built for my Grand-daughter. I removed the back and replaced it with book match maple that was thinned using a hand plane. The neck was cut on a bandsaw and shaped with hand plane, files and sandpaper. The fret board and hardware was from C.B.Gitty. The Faries supplied their own dust. My 9 year old Grand-daughter has been writing her own music which she keeps inside the Uke.
