Here is my latest uke! I used a Patron box. Built the neck from maple with a lacewood fingerboard and headstock overlay. The scale length is 15 inches (Concert).

I can't put my finger on why exactly, but I really like the vibe this one puts off.

i like the gun metal type   bluing

rules are more like guide lines ;) keep building killer ukuleles .

This is a pair of ukes I made between last year and this year. The uke on the left is built on a Padron cigar box and is Tenor scale while the uke on the right is Concert scale built on an Arturo Fuente cigar box. The smaller one I made for one of my boys to play to get him interested in musical instruments, I felt ukulele's were about the easiest to start with. The Concert uke most assuredly has the oddest head stock on it which gives it it's name of The Paddle Boy, Both play great and we have a good time with them at BBQ's. Just keeping it somewhat simple.

I made this for a cousin of mine for his birthday, my Aunt asked me to make one without letting him know. I came up with the stand last minute using another cigar box I had that something I wasn't planning on using to build anything with. He loves music and plays instruments so he was excited when he saw it. I wanted the look of the uke to be a sort of illusion that the box was surrounded by wood, thus the brace on the back that runs seamlessly into the neck. I used a piece of branch from a tree in our backyard for the bridge and the ring under that which it sits on is from a broken computer hard drive that I through away. The rings are between the platters on the hard drive. I think I did quite well on this build. I love Cigar Box Nation and as with any of us who build out of the love for building or that do that as well as build to sell, winning any contest does that much more to establish what we love to do.

My second Uke, hand carved neck is ebonized poplar, finger board and bridge are made from yellow heart. Saddle and Nut made from ebonized wenge. Gold medium frets.  Piezo pickup to a gold jack lower back edge (sorry not shown in the 3 views). Headstock was my first attempt at gilding with variegated metal leaf.  I intended to string it with black strings but I forgot to order them in time before this Uke went to auction to help a young man who needs a liver transplant.

Built on a 16" tenor scale.

My soprano cigar box ukulele is a "Romeo y Julieta" with cat-head type head stock. It includes a piezoelectric disc and can be plugged into an amplifier. Sound holes have drink holder netting within, to hide internal wiring. Strings are black nylon. Box is paper but includes internal reinforcement and is coated with polyurethane. The box included a paper fold that had a smaller Romeo y Julieta image, so that image is on the head stock.

This is my favorite thread here, awesome stuff and now I know I'm not the only Uke junkie on this site. The Uke is perfect for boxes they are just the right size and balance much better then guitars. Aloha!

Hey guys JP here at Pair-o-Dice Guitars. My entry is a CB Tenor ukulele. Built for the guys at the Bad Ass Coffee main office located here in Salt Lake City, UT. They provided me with the box. The neck is made from blood wood with a Australian cypress fb and heel cap. The bridge is also made from the cypress. Built in piezo pickup under the bridge. Bone nut and saddle. Thanks for checking it out.

Another one from JP at Pair-o-Dice Guitars. A Rocky Patel Tenor Ukulele. Maple neck with an Australian cypress fb. Red jewel side dot markers almost look like they light up when the light hits them just right. I drilled and recessed the plastic jewels I picked up at the hobby/crafts store. Then filled in the holes with a few drops of super glue. The bridge is also made from the cypress. The Australian cypress I use is reclaimed from some old wood flooring. Piezo discs inlaid into the bottom of the bridge really brings out the sound when plugged in to an amp.

This VegaFina cigar-box ukulele has a red oak neck with bocote wood fingerboard and saddle. The slotted headstock attaches to the neck with a half-lap joint cut at a seven degree angle.  The bridge and nut are real bone shaped from a cow bone found lying in a pasture. The bone was fairly well sun dried when I found it which helped with the preparation. The bone was cut with a hacksaw, and shaped with a bench grinder, files and sandpaper.  Burlap glued inside the sound holes finish out the look. This uke is a soprano with an overall length of 19.75 inches.
