Hey folks.  Thinking of building a CBG bass and I have a question or 2. Does it matter what kind of magnetic pickup I put in it?  I mean is there one specific for basses?  Also, does the 3 or 4…Continue

nylon tapewound work great. easy on the neck, easy on the fingers, waaay better tone and sustain than weedwhackers.

mine was not scrap but it's a 3/4 scale. it sounds better than basses that are waaaay out of my price range.

Just finished my first Bass CBG. Very different to building a guitar. I used an old EKO neck that I found online and got very cheap. She plays really nicely. Standard tuning using three strings from a light gauge bass set plus a low E string from an electric - basically to keep string tension down.

Comment by Wichita Sam on March 11, 2014 at 2:30pm

you can either do "standard bass tuning"  E-A-D,  A-D-G ..depending on the strings that you used,  or you could also do an open  tuning such as D-A-d, G-D-g  again, depending on the strings that you used.  The decision depends on your intended usage.  If you're going to be play bass lines as part of a band, then standard tuning probably makes good sense.  If you're going to be play chords and melodies then an open tuning could be the way to go.

Try both....

Thanks, I Used Red Oak Shaved By Coarse Wood Rasp, I Then Used It with Super Glue For A Slurry And Filled In All Of The Carvings. You HaveETo Be Careful Not To Mix Too Much And Not Too Thin, Or It Will Harden Or Be Too Clear.
