I used a ready-make fingerboard from Ebay, with the nut, too.  Remember that fitting friction pegs is a big PIA unless you have the proper tool set, and they are a bit of an investment.  You can see different head designs by Jim Morris here. He also buys the fingerboards, but makes the necks and heads himself, and then can use geared tuners.

Hello, Steve!  You might have a struggle using a standard fiddle neck on a cigar box unless you find the exact right size box, and I never have!  The box is the hardest part.  Do you have one picked out?  Thin wood is a must, and not very wide at all.  5", unless you are planning to cut out a waist.  Keep me posted on how your build goes!

Ah, you speak of that trifling incident at Reichenbach? That popinjay somewhat incommoded me their. It was most fortuitous that he had not the wit, what with his limited cranial capacity, to foresee my employment of divergence engines to recover mythological artifacts from discarded space!

Enjoy that Lowebow!  A group would be great. I'm "in", if you start it.  :-)   What tunlngs are you using?  I used ezlooper.com to study Seasick Steve's vids.  On his 4-STRING CBG he's using 1,1,5,1. (i.e.: Don't Know Why She Love Me). On different concerts he is in different keys on the same song, but still 1 ,1, 5, 1.  So,I tried that on the LB and sounds great..  Plus, I'm using a two-bolt capo "Ben Prestage" style for a shorter neck.

thanks a lot Steve, yep no choice but to learn to live without them. It's how it has to be. Having a grand child on the way balances things out, but it's a shame they couldn't have overlapped a bit as Dad was so excited about it!

Brickdust! He's just some shaven-headed neanderthal who plays with bunched fists. I, however, am about to unleash one of the best cbg's ever built - for which I will be forever in your debt.  :)

Steve

You'll find it well worth while using lighter/better materials.Tried it on a few of mine, this one has a box made from 1/16" thick walnut  back and sides and a western red cedar front. It has best acoustic sound of all .

Model shops sell prefinished sheets of the walnut 4" wide and they aren,t expensive.Glue two one foot lengths together to make a nice back 12"x8",cut a length down the centre, thats your ends and sides
