Hey thought i'd get some input from the pros and rookies on what YOU hate and like......

likes....The sound thru the pickup when you get it soldered, stringing, intonating, playin it for the first time.getting the box cut and the neck fitting in,The smell of wood, they all smell unique, coming up with a cool idea that actually works.Finding a piece at the thrift store that I can use in a build.

and for me sayng.....yup ,I built that.....lol

Dislikes.....Roookie perspective.....Destoying a nice box......I use average ones right now till I get better,Cutting the neck too short and not getting the distance btween the nut and bridge....gakking a box with the saw, soldering tiny litlle damn wires, forgetting to cut inside of neck be4 cutting box....dohhhh,Glueing a box together then having a post build wiring or plug issue,,,grrr,Fretting,,,,,arghhhh,so far still fretless, had one try without success,Losing patience because I'm frustrated

I do like building , but I lack patience and I get ahead of myself,It's a process, this CBG thang

I enjoy art, music, and building stuff so this hobby has been great for me, since my divorce this has kept me in a good place. I think of what I can do next and enjoy my time in my workshop, I really like watching my friends play stuff I made it's a cool thing.     I don't like my WalMart soldering iron the only thing it cooks real good is my paws, time for a new one.

I love the process of just making things, especially musical instruments, getting covered in sawdust, saving timber from a skip and stripping off years of old paint / varnish to reveal something that will make a great guitar neck (that tree spent a lot of time making the stuff).

Stringing up an instrument for the first time and hearing how it sounds, hearing an instrument I've built played by someone who knows what they are doing.

Saying to the better half "Shirley, I NEED a bandsaw" .....Reply..."Yes dear", always a good excuse to acquire new toys.

I hate waiting for glue /lacquer /paint to dry. Making daft mistakes. Spending a long time away from my shed, not having a current project.

Time is a big pain, I work full time so by the time I get home, walk the dog, get something to eat it's about 7pm before I can hit the guitar making on a good night.  Then sometimes people have crazy ideas at the weekend like spending family time or whatever, what's that all about? ;-)

Time doesn't bother me, I'm retired and building these things is a hobby. I may start a build and get interrupted for one reason or another and not get back to it for a week, but that just gives more time for "engineering" the build and mental doodling small things. I like the the whole process of the build, figuring out how to make each one a little different, seeing what personality the build may have and what direction it may take me and I love the magic of stringing it up the first time and hearing it speak. They all have a voice of their own and to bring that out is something that makes me smile.

Well love these sorts of thread, never bored at watching the videos of people playing their creations. The fine dance on the edge of a razor between, their are no rules and laws of physics.

I came to this as a maker. So I love the woodworking aspect of this, good clean fun that does not consume a lot of wood, requires some concentration and skill.

So on making them pressing in all those frets way down by the box, all squozed up together, my brain always thinks Geeeez so many so close together where nobody will ever play them, why did I draw so many lines but I can't stop now or it will look a little ADD.

                                                               Cheers Ron,

likes-feedback, distortion, extreme volume, the feeling you get when you put strings on a gitty for the first time and realize wow this sounds good. shaping the neck(i use a utility knife and sandpaper) making mistakes and fixing them, accidently cutting myself when building( ive bled on every instrument ive made so far) throwing my gitty against the wall so i have something to fix, the comments i get on my vids, seeing other peoples work, gettn drunk in the shed and playing my gitty, telling people i make cbg's and they go "what is a cbg?" and get to tell em all about it and how to get here so they can learn more about it, uncle johns vids, james wah wah pedal, the way bemuzic uses a looper, the fact that im on a motorhead tribute album,  just about everything.

dislikes-running out of beer at 3 in the morning, mean people, the poor selection of wood at home depot and menards, and using the solder iron( i really suck at it)

Wait, you forgot a few classics:

Turn ons: back rubs, sunsets, piña coladas, getting caught in the rain

Turn offs: rude people, splinters, and cold Ben Wa balls

>:-E

Never a dull moment with you ,Ronny lmao

-feedback, distortion, extreme volume, word.....and ......Word...glad somebody appreciates a good screaming CBG like we do.....love it.....maybe its heavy metal cbg collabo time...I'll lay the bass drum and rhythm cbg if ya wanna blow some amps up on lead

Thanx Rusty Pup, now that I can weigh in a bit , ....excellent stufff,Agrreed,TIME ,and the workin man, Davey.I got maself a spokeshave ,I aborted my annnoying vibrating saw and I 'm going to go back to how I did my first build before I got the tools.I enjoyed that one,but I had time to also. This is great timing,I built a 4 string Reso recently,Inlaid neck ,Lowe Cone,Stars, handmade biscuit, already fretted neck and somehow at end I cut the neck too short and my 22.5 scale didnt fit on top of cone ...couldn't push cone back further....grrr,Now I have to use  a boring piece of copper as the reso plate......grrrrrrr.....So,I stepped back for a week cause work is busy.I'm going back in today w/ a refreshed attitude ready to finish.Sometimes another big problem for rookies is what order to do things , too

this has been great to share and listen.I appreciate all the killer stufff from all perspectives...salud

I hate starting. I stare at all the bit and bobs I've assembled, and I feel like a sculptor stood before a massive block of stone fretting over where to make the strike with the hammer and chisel.
