Ok I just seen "It Might Get loud" and I just can't get "Whole Lotta Love" out of my head...
So can anyone play this on a 3 string CBG... thought this might be fun....

Yes I understand this was taken from Willie Dixon.

real good on the view point of a guitar player and the similarities from generation to generation... But since I do video production for a living the editing was a bit bad... they switched between characters so fast and at odd times that you had to watch closely to see who they where talking about or with... But maybe that was the point
Quite interesting. I knew about Whole Lotta Love, Dazed and Confused and Lemon Song from listening to Bluesville on XM.

BTW - our beloved Elvis P was a [borrower] artist too... well sorta. Love Me Tender was the tune Aura Lee. A Civil War ballad. Dunno who got the credits but that's one tune.

who lotta love. Nice song. But I like Muddy Waters(written by Willie Dixon) original performance is better.
You can find that version here (the name of the song is not same):

I have read somewhere that willie Dixon and Led Zeppelin where in court becouse of this song. If I remember right they Dixon got a lot of money from Led Z.

By the way...still I think that Led Z version is good and it's good band

Who lotta love wasn't only "stolen" LZ song:

In addition to the "uncredited covers" listed here,
I know of:

- Leadbelly's "Gallis Pole" (seems to me as though it was via Koerner, Glover and Ray's version)
- Memphis Minnie's "When the Levee Breaks" (she is credited as "Douglas")
I've never played Whole Lotta Love on CBG, but I have done these:
When the Levee Breaks
In My Time of Dying
Dancing Days
Let's keep in mind that almost all of those tunes were only credited with the "original" artists because they happened to record them first.

All this LZ hate I'm seeing on the internet in the past few years saddens me.

They did nothing that wasn't done before and paid large chunks of cash to the "original" artists in almost all cases.

Led Zeppelin were INCREDIBLE performers, hell - they still are. Saw them at the O2 in London in '07

Can't wait to see "It Might Get Loud" The only thing keeping me from seeing it is because Mr. Hide behind 5 million effects and span several years of songwriting with essentially the same riff. Referring to David "Edge" Evans. Don't get me wrong - Joshua Tree was a phenomenal album. I don't feel that the guy is on the same order of magnitude as jack and jimmy though.

Also - in regards to Elvis - he hardly wrote any of his music.

No hate from me -- I have a ton of respect for their performance and chops. I was just trying to add a little information to the knowledge about the roots of their music. "Gallis Pole" is certainaly not original to Leadbelly: it goes back to medieval ballads, i think. "When the Levee Breaks" was definitely original to Minnie and her husband, though.
Magic Moments in life are short now a days... But yes when Page starts playing that riff, that was probably the one Magic Moment in the entire movie, that alone was worth the price....

I still would love to see someone play this on a 3 string... I can't play at all or I would give it a try...
Am doing When the levee breaks in my current set on a 4 string slide, which was credited to Memphis Minnie, and am practicing Bron Y Aur Stomp for fun on a 3 string.

Gallows pole is a very old trad song from England sometime in the 18th century, so changing of the words and deviations to the melody are a common occurance with many songs which travelled the Atlantic and turned up years later as Appilachian mountain traditionals.. There are countless Irish, swedish, german, english scottish, chech, austrian, swiss melodies which got transformed into american folk.
This is nothing new, and serves as a simple reminder of the roots of the US.
The part in "It Might Get Loud" that put a HUGE smile on my face was when Page plopped down a 45rpm of Link Wray's "Rumble" and did some air-guitar!! It was great to see Jimmy ( a excellent technical player) paying tribute to Link (simple but effective player). Viva Link Wray! As for Jack White...I liked his sound/style from the get-go. Another simple-but-effective player who has proven to me there may be hope for modern rock.
