Anybody seen these boxes before? If so, anything I need to worry about before going to town on 'em? I'm curious how deep the "inlays" are...

The dude at the cigar store sold 'em to me for ten bucks each. On the front is a little golden plate, saying #xxxx out of 1200. The inside has some nice black felt on the lid, with another larger golden plate with the Carlos Torano Tribute 2008 logo. I should have taken pics of the front and inside.....

Thought I'd share with you all, and see if anyone had any experience with these particular boxes. I see much potential in these little beauties...

Never seen them before. They are pretty. Let's see some results, Can't wait! Some people on here will tell you they are no good and send them to them to get rid of. Don't listen to them. They be shady characters.
I've seen the Carlos Torano boxes but not that design. The ones I have are all very dark with gold lettering and they are beautiful also. Interesting and lovely.
Those boxes are no good and send them to me to get rid of them.

(I saw some of those on Ebay I think and did not go for them. Now I am regretting that!)

Nice boxes!

I wont tell you they are no good... but they do look like those special 'UK climate' boxes to me - ya know, the ones that need to be kept at a certain humidy so they dont move... in fact, exactly the climate we have here in Scotland!

My address is.....
Beautiful boxes, be sure and check their glueing before using. The bottom pic shows what looks to be glue missing in some areas.
Very nice looking objects you have there, but I never saw them before.
Looks more made for a Backgammon set.
Cool boxes! Can't wait to see them in action.

I haven't seen those, but I started a CBG using a Toraño box. I cut out the inside of that logo, trying to carve out all the insides to leave the outline. It's a PITA, but it should look cool as a soundhole.
Nice box's, saw two like that listed on ebay awhile back and I didn't bid on them because the shipping cost was like $19.00 + something on top of the winning bid.

Those are good looking so your off to a great start, can't wait to see what you turn them into. (:>}

It'll be a while yet... I think I've got at least 4 or 5 builds before I start on these, just cuz I have to do these boxes justice, ya know?

I did find another one of these 2008 tribute series, plus a 2004 series... the 2004 has inlays too, although not quiet as elaborate as the 2008 ones.

But I can't wait to see what they turn into either! I've got some plans already in mind for them.
If the inlays are made of standard veneer it is usually about .3 mm to .8 mm thick. Compare it to construction paper, maybe a little thicker.
I meant to add that with big open seams like that I'd put a seal coat of lacquer on then wax the seams and scrape off the excess with an olfa blade; scuff sand with 220 grit and apply your finish coats and the seams all but disappear. It lools like you might want to key those out first, though, to get rid of the lacquer that didn't fill the seam properly.
I have tried to use boxes with velvet or something similar before and each time I had to go back and pull the velvet lining off the inside of the top due to it sucking up too much sound. After that the CBG's played fine.
They ought to be awsome looking CBG's when ya get em down. Dont forget to post pics.
