I've been filming quick little 1-minute videos for the cbgs I'm selling on eBay.  When I went to make a video for this guitar, I started to fall in love the the feel and tone of it.  The video is like 4 minutes long.  DOH!  (I'm tempted to keep the axe for myself!)  since the camera was really close, I also give a quick lesson on the stubby slide technique.  Hope it helps.

If I had the money I would buy it in a heart beat. I have your finger picking down as I use it on my strummer from Jay at tinyguitars. Picking up a stubby socket tomorrow.

Shane,

Whatcha askin' for that one? I'm feelin' the need...

PM me.

Shane,

Nebbermind. I just grabbed it offa the Bay. I'm planning on keeping this one in the States, for when I'm there on vacation.

I guess that proves the point of playing it sells it. Nice cbg, nicer playing.

Yeah, this is my response to the other forum question about why guitars don't sell on eBay.  Learn to play 'em and people will buy them.  They buy these things only after they've imagined themselves playing beautiful music on 'em.

I suppose as the customer, I should weigh in here ;-), just so there's no doubt about the process from my side.

Customer background:

Acoustic guitar player since 1977. Amplified Acoustic guitar player since 1979. Acoustic / Electric player since 1992. Electric player since 1994. CBN member since around March 2011. 3-string CBG builder since June 2011 (2 3-stringers nearing completion, plans for 3 or 4 more. I'm slow). 3 & 4 string CBG player since December 2011 (purchased 1 Wichita Sam build, and 2 Harrison Withers builds). Various choirs, duets and pickup bands since 1977. In the last year, tried to rapidly familiarize myself with John McNair, Keni Lee Burgess, Shane Speal, Ted Crocker, Wichita Sam, Michael S, and numerous others' build styles, techniques, etc. Purchased technique DVDs from Keni Lee, watched Shane's and Knotlenny's vid lessons numerous times, and constantly refer back to all of them. Purchased and devoured Bill Jehle's, Mike Orr's, and just yesterday, David Sutton's CBG books.

In other words, not your average eBay or weekend festival tire kicker, but one of The Afflicted.

Why did I buy this? The Mind of The Consumer, In order of priority / chronology:

1) A Shane Speal CBG is a well recognized brand, if you will. At least, by me. I have wanted one of his builds since first coming into contact with him through CBN.
2) The video provided ease of access and stimulation for 2 of my senses: sight and sound. I have also purchased other guitars over the Internet, as well as other items, am reasonably tech savvy, and am comfortable with the concept and security of Web commerce.
3) I saw it, and liked the look.
4) Shane provided info on the construction., up front. The aged cedar box means warm tones to me, something I always look for in commercial or otherwise guitars.
5) He played it. I recognize great tone when I hear it, and this box has it. He could have play "Twinkle, Twinkle" on it, or even a few single notes or chords, it wouldn't have mattered. To me.
6) Yes, I aspire to play slide as well as Shane does. He has almost 20 years experience at it. Did I visualize myself doing it on this box? You betcha.
7) I went to eBay, found the item, verified it was Shane's through the accompanying vid, saw the price, which was acceptable, checked the bank account, and pulled the trigger.
8) Rationalization of what was definitely an insider's impulse buy (I did not wake up yesterday morning thinking, "I'm buyin' another CBG today! Woo Hoo!") came in the form of "I don't have a CBG Stateside. I'll be home this summer. I also have 15 other guitars in my collection, so what's one more? My wife just bought online a bunch of iTunes albums, movies, and TV shows, and several Kindle books, and some Tee shirts, so this should be OK..."

Shane, I can't argue wiht that logic, gotta practice my demo playing.

Oily, thats good consumer info, hope the other sellers from the other post read it.

Awesome!

Hey, I love the quick basic tutorials, more please!

Just a suggestion (or two)

1: It would be nice to see both hands more clearly, maybe a better camera angle. Sounds like you are alternating between cross picking and some finger picking.

2: This would be a great spot for a link to your e-bay ads....... Just sayin'

It's tough to get both hands in the camera, especially when I want to show detail.  I also kept the camera close on these vids simply because I've yet to lose weight and I hate seeing my fat ass on Youtube.  I'll try to get better angles on my next vids.

All my eBay listings are here:

Thanks for picking this one up, Oily!

Pleasure doing business with ya, bud!

As another one of the Lard Blessed, I'm thinkin' you could always (temporarily) place yourself behind a black fabric screen with two armholes cut into it...or there may be some video masking tricks that I don't know about, that could just show your disembodied hands playing...

The King........ Thanks for the tutorial.
