So, I got a couple or 3 necks pretty cheap, 24 3/4" scale. The biggest issue with using them is finding a box big enough so that the bridge isn't sitting, either off the top or, perilously close to the edge. I've got an Arturo Fuente that's about 13" long and the bridge is about 2" from the end/edge of the top--I can use it, but it's about 1 3/4" deep, not optimal for my preferred construction.

So, the question is: What's the largest cigar box you've seen? I scoured ebay and only saw a couple boxes longer than 11".

Thanks in advance, Brad

I do want to try the door thing, but not until I find the right door with a decent or unusual book matched grain.

Wine boxes.   Quite often you can find older, heavier boxes that held 1-3 bottles of wine.

They're not great acoustically since the lids are super thick, but they have a great design, and might give you a nice semi-hollowbody tone when accompanied by a coil pickup.

Yeah, I already looked at those--they're not doing it for me. The wood looks pretty shitty for the most part, and there doesn't seem to be a big variance in the quality from one to another. And, I'm hoping to make something that plays well acoustically.
I love this box for 6 string fender scale. Though it is hard to find them now.

yeah that's nice,Think I've seen it.

What is it(box)?

I have a Ditka and a coupla Cohibas that are around 15",dunno if theyre too big.

The Ditka will be cool w/ the LP headstock,CBG,4string,fretted,24" or 25" at the most scale neck.

13" will work, but 15" would look a whole lot better--and acoustically, probably sound better too. I have a Cohiba, but mine is only about 11". I'll have to take a closer look at them next time I'm at the smoke shop.

Dunno,XxX

but I have a Gar that's huge, and just bought the big Edge one. Both for standup basses.

Geets,atleast 12".

10" would be the absoloute minimum.

The GAR I have is 23".

No pun intended and lets not get juvinial!

I'll have to see if I can find one of those to look at...

I like using old silverware boxes, most are around 17" x 10" x 3" with some larger or smaller. Plenty of room for electronics.     The Amish Harp..final pic`s

Maybe you can mount the neck further away from the box so you can get the bridge placement you want?
