Uncle John's Tennessee Dance Marathon (1948)

Uncle John's Tennessee Dance Marathon (1948)
1. I was walking down the street, when an old lady I did meet
She said "I'm looking for a man called "young John B"
She described him to a "T", I said he's "Uncle John" to me
And he certainly ain't a young man, from what I can see

2. Then her story she did relate, in Tennessee in "forty eight"
When she and Uncle John were just sixteen
The all night dancin' craze was on, she was good, but so was John
And they won near every trophy to be seen

3. I was surprised , I've got to say, that John could dance the night away
For he certainly can't sing, or play guitar
The old Lady then spoke on, said she must seen him, soon she'd be gone
With six white horses to lead that black car

4. Seems she wanted one last dance, a simple jive, with no romance
Just to bring those old memories out to play
I messaged John, said "you gotta come, there's a lady here, and she's dying some
And all she wants, is one dance with you, to see her on her way

5. With Linda's blessing, John came down, to the rockin' side of town
And they danced , in a jukebox joint, a little down the way
The old lady died alone that night, in her hotel room, she'd no more fight
And somewhere in heaven , there's a jukebox , that always plays:
I remember that night and the Tennessee Waltz
Now I know just how much I have lost
Yes I lost my little darling the night they were playing
The beautiful Tennessee Waltz
