Thanks Clock. I've written that down in the order you wrote it just incase I forget ;) I appreciate the comment and the smile it gave me after I read it. I needed it today so thanks again.
Just play play play!
Then play some more...
;-)
That's it Man keep that that positive attitude I mess up all the time just keep on playing telling My self I'll get better and I will . hope Ya get that ear better soon. See Ya Man
Thanks James. Others have said it's nice looking too so I feel like I have made a good purchase even though I had no idea what I was looking at. I started mixing the finger playing with the finger picking today and played a little with the noter for having extra fun. I'm really enjoying it. I don't know chords yet but I'll learn them. Thanks for sharing about how to fret and particularly about lifting pressure slightly to slide to the next fret. I didn't know that so I'll try that next time too. I'll keep practicing and definitely having fun. I'm suffering with an ear infection which also means my ear is blocked too so I'm just hearing a racket what ever I play right now. Just keep telling myself I probably sound awesome, world class even, and it's just my ears. Lol. Thanks for commenting and helping. Much appreciated.
Nice looking Dulcimer Bear I believe New strings will help a lot also correct finger or Noter placement is necessary place in front of fret and press down let off just a little as you slide up. to next note . I like to use fingers allows more control to play individual notes and Chords as you become a more advance player . you can play Melody of most songs with 1 finger or noter on 1 string if you want. you will have to use fingers to play Chords since they require 2 notes to be played at same a time. you can also use the full 3 note chords same as you play on guitar which require you to used 3 fingers or full Bar chords press all strings across finger board at fret. I used the 2 finger Chords which are power Chords Mainly Because I don't have an index finger Easier for me and sound great on a instrument tuned in open tuning I use Dadd tuning on mine since it's 4 string Dulcimer the 2 dd are double on 3 string it would be DAD. just practice and have fun with it there a lot of fun to play and it will come to ya My Friend See Ya
Hopefully post a song in a week or two Nancy. Get new strings on it next week and practice playing something. I'm already doing a bit of finger picking with the noter and being able to note and do something different with the other hand strumming is definitely a skill I've transfered over from playing CBG. Playing one has helped the other. Thanks for commenting Nancy. Much appreciated.
Thanks Derek. I'm going to try both ways eventually. I tried the finger method when the dulcimer was delivered but will try that again. Nice to find out what the none problem was too so I'm set for both. I read or watched a video that said the dulcimer I have without the six and a half fret is good for tuning that in itself is best for noter playing. I will try both though. Thanks for commenting and helping, Derek. Much appreciated.
Set down the noter and just use your fingers, press down just above and close to the fret like a guitar. (That's what I do, but I am just a casual dulci guy). Check out Jame's and Jim's videos, they know their way around a dulcimer! :^)
Thanks Andries for the info. I have a few high E strings left over from other builds and maybe a wound D too. I think the gauge I have probably wouldn't work though as I like medium to heavy gauge on builds. Next week and new strings will be here in no time at all I'm sure. She's still playable for now too so no need to stop the fun. Definitely fun too! I'll take scale length measurements in the morning and post here with the info. Thanks for helping.
