Thanks, Vinylhed, ma man. Yes, Clarence Ashley made it popular to most folks. Ah don't listen ta his old records now since ah gave up smoking (no ASH around my house now LOL).

re my technique (or lack of it LO); i neevr quite managed true clawhammer on ma banjo (still trying lol). But I DO use a version of  technique on this, and some other numbers. All (or nearly all) of the  melody notes I play here are done with the back of my nail  (middle finger ). Some clawhammer players recommned the index finger, but I find more strength in ma middle one. Thanks for lookin in, ma man :)

Clarence Ashley's rendition of this song is my absolute favourite cut on Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music. Your guitar work is great, sounds rather like a clawhammer banjo.

@John Cheers, ma man. Just got today, but played bit Uke before. Playin it more like a banjo here (got a bajo lyin in corner LOL). have a good weekend, John. Hope ta meet  you all at a convention sometime, but commitments just now,and up north, as ye know.
