I disagree with Uncle on the posture. Good chest out posture is good for voice but I like to clearly see my fretboard. I like my stripes. I need to see the fretboard. To play in tune directly over a fret I need to see the frets. Vibrato works to help being in tune but seeing clearly helps me. Side dots are good but I like clear fret marking better. I like lap style, so looking down on the frets is good to me. So, I'm a slouch. And I look like a monkey.

Nice lesson Jim. I think sometimes playing full out without the string damping, loud clicking frets, wood knocking going on all can be good. At least I tell myself that. I think the vibrato works great on sustained notes to help them sound in tune. I like to hold short notes with no vibrato. I have greatest control using a lap steel style and high action and a Stevens style bar but then you can't fret notes. I'm learning the pinkie technique slowly. I'm slow...

Yes Sir, Jim! You made it look easy, but that's based on a lot of work and thought. I can only speak for myself, but because of the response this post is getting, it's reaching a lot of folks. Really appreciate this one Jim!

Thanks Richard. These videos are way harder for me to make than just sitting down and playing but it's worth it if folks appreciate and maybe get something from it.

Thank you Jim! Very helpful instructions there. You certainly have a knack for teaching, and being a very good finger pick and slide player is a bonus. Very precise, right to the point, that's the beauty of it, it's like a photo that stays in the mind a while, making learning easier and more fun. Uncle's guitar posture excellent too, I'm really guilty of leaning the guitar to see what I'm playing, and it does make it more difficult to get a clean slide sound. Thanks so much!
