Indian Cowboy by Joe Ely

If you [C]ever go [G] out to the [C] circus
Where the Wallendas walk on the [G]wire.
I'll [C]tell you a tale to re- [F]member
When the [C] white horses [G] leaped rings of [C]fire.

It was a cold [G] night in Okla- [G]homa
And the show was about to be-[G]gin
The [C] animals they was all [F] restless
When the [C] star-horse she [G]broke from her [C]pen

Now, she was a [G]mare of high [C]spirits
Like a whore on a Saturday [G] night
Just a-[C]kickin' and a-buckin' while the [F]men
were a-brushin'
The [C] elephants [G] lined on the [C]side

Now close to the [G] tent sat a [C] lantern
Dangerously close to the [G] hay
That [C]mare headed straight for that [F]lantern
Some [C] fool left [G]there by [C]mistake

Then up jumps an [G] Indian [C] Cowboy
his lasso he whirls through the [G] air.
Smack-[C]dab in the middle of [F]danger
He [C]ropes the [G]runaway [C]mare

And the elephants [G] raised up their [C]trumpets
And one of them broke from her [G] chains
And stam-[C] peded that Indian [F]Cowboy
Who [C] just saved the [G] big top from [C]flames.

Re-[C]member that Indian [F]Cowboy
When the [C]white horses [G]leap rings of [C]fire.

Sorry Ron.  How could I have forgotten snake bite medicine and a bad cowboy cop!    Liked your link.

Dr. (oops, Uncle) John's Prescription For a Good Cowboy Song:

horse, dance hall gal, cows, saloon, Preparation H, prairie, mountain, camp fire or whistling.

What? No snakebite medicine? No flawed-but-courageous lawman? No steel-nosed gunslinger? No rapacious cattle baron? No Injun massacree? No "Won't somone help that poor man?"

Well, at least you got the blazing saddle in there. >:-E

Thanks John Maw.  Songs work best if you feel them.  I love a good story.

Very nicely sung Uncle John. The way you sing it really makes it feel as if you had been there and seen it for yourself.

Thanks, Shane.  Whistling can be omitted!
