Still trying to get a decent recording with the mic in front of the amp - It's not easy to get it right. Used the BHK56 and added some reverb with an old multi-effects pedal. The pics are some bugs from the Fens, apart from a distant guest appearance by Mrs D in one of them.

Thanks Keith. Unfortunately, building new CBGs tends to distract me from playing. The garage is my comfort zone.

Thanks Steve, Bug and Wes.  I'll try setting everything to the middle and adjusting one thing at a time.  So far I've found the mic level in the Control Panel and the mic input level in Audacity.  I'm sure I've seen mic gain somewhere but can't find it now.

See grease stains low cost mic stand !

A small mic stand would be money well spent Digly, the mic will be reasonably isolated and positioned with better precision (-:

...and turn all your settings to "middling" and see how you get on !

Thanks Be and Bug. Getting rid of the background noise is difficult. Maybe I need to move the mic back, turn the amp up to 11 and drown out the hiss. Or turn down the mic gain or something - so many variables :-\

The next project is to mount the mic on an old tripod so that the amp can be raised off the carpet and onto a hard surface. I could buy a mic stand but it's just more clutter.

sounds gorgeous!!...there's some hiss but does that add to it I wonder?? I haven't found the sweet spot that Steve mentions yet when miking an amp!! On recent recordings I've used line in, plus miked the guitar itself, then mixed those two together. Some great photos too : -)
