Double Neck CBG- flash or practical? What do you think?

Double Neck CBGs ~ poseur flash or practicality???
What do you think?

Keep in mind that Shane Speal set up the Cigar Box Nation with the motto: No rules.

But most of us have personal rules, preferences, beliefs, etc.
One of mine was or is that double neck gits are too fancy or show offy – at least for my own self.

But are they practical if a person plays two tunings like I do? Turns out for performance, open mike, etc. – it’s seamless to change tunings without changing gits.

How is the playability? This one is pretty good. I don’t bump or get hindered by the neck not in use. These 2 necks are just under 3 inches (7cm) apart. Works well.

One piezo electrifys both. Piezo about dead center in the box.

Appearance: I cannibalized 2 gits to make the double. I like the necks looking different and different lengths and I like that they are mildly relic’d. The box does not look quite right with the necks. Suggestions?

Unc,

Yep. Two license plates, side by side lengthwise, as the cover for a single box, one neck for each plate. Now that I'm thinking about this more, I think fer highly kewl would be a Lowebow bass+3 string slider config on one side, and a fretted 4-stringer on the bottom neck...yeah, that's the ticket!

This isn't change.  This is adaptation.  I think it looks really good.

Change for Uncle John would include a looper pedal, an Abe Lincoln beard and some heavy metal shredding.  Not that any of that is bad.

Thanks for alt the kind words.   This thing does work well, but it's just not my style.   Change is BAD!  Will give it more time and likely will relic that box like Mr. Carl suggestted.

Ron, somehow use both license plates for a double.  That sounds pretty cool.   What about 2 SINGLEs that would join for a  Double?    Wish I had thought of that and done that.

Tor,  with the DGB tuning, you can look at chord charts for either banjo or six string guitar for the chords- and just use the DGB portion off the chord chart.   Most chords are 2 fingers, some are one and a few are 3.

I dont think you should change a thing! It sounds great(at both necks) and two necks will always look a little "weard"(at least to me),but to me it looks like a "one piece" !And the explanation(the reason) about the different tunings made a good sence to mind!So good job!!! Thanks for sharing the DGB tuning info!!! Will try that tuning out for sure!

Unc,

Hey Uncle John, what a great sound your double has. "Amazing". Thanks for show offy. Your different neck sizes are much like the G strum stick and a D strum stick (the longer). Makes for a nice variety of sound. Very strong acoustic sound. Good job on this one John. Thanks
