Crow Jane on 3 string hubcap guitar & harp

Great blues by (I believe) Skip James. Check it out on youtube and also the version by iplaybanjonow.

Done here on the Olds hubcap git - tuned up to AEa and with straight (A) harp.

Crow Jane

Crow [I] , Jane, Crow [V] Jane, Crow Jane Don't you [IV] hold your head too [I] high.

Someday, baby, you [V] know you got to [I] die You got to [V] lay down and die.

[I] I want to buy me a [V] pistol and [IV] forty rounds of [I] ball.
Shoot Crow Jane [V] just to see her [I] fall. She got to [V] fall, she got to [I] fall.

And I wanta dig her [V] grave [IV] with a silver [I] spade.
I ain't gonna let no [V] body take her [I] place. No you [V] can't take her place

You know I [I] never missed my [V] water [IV] til my well went [I] dry.
I didn't miss Crow Jane [V] until she [I] ….. ‘Til the [V] day she died.

That’s [I] why I begged Crow [V] Jane , not to [IV] hold her head too [I] high.
Cause’ someday, baby, you [V] know you got to [I] die. You got to [V] lay down and die, ya got to [V] die.

And I [I] dug that woman’s [V] grave.. [IV] eight feet in the[I] ground.
I didn’t feel sorry un- [V] til they laid her [I] down.

That’s [I] why I begged Crow [V] Jane , not to [IV] hold her head too [I] high.
Cause’ someday, baby, you [V] know you got to [I] die. You got to [V] lay down and die, ya got to [V] die

Thanks Rich.  I love this old song.  Thought I sang it good in places and not so good in others.  Really liking the hubcap git with a covered bass mag pup (from Gitty).  Had the amp down low.

Thanks Anders and RTZ.

RTZ, yes 'hilly' is good to describe her voice.  She sure can play and sing.

Thanks Letha.  I will take it as a compliment.  I like the old 33rpm blues.   And I'm glad if I have some of that sound.

Hey, check out this song on youtube by Skip James and a great modern day female blues player iplaybanjonow.

John, every time I listen to your voice, I think how timeless and unique it is. When I close my eyes, it is like I am listening to a 33 rpm record...You know the RCA victor label with the big megaphone record player and dog? Hope you know I'm a complimenting lol. Thank you for sharing.
