Been in a rut lately and decided to watch John McNair's DVD on how to play again. It put me right back in that frame of mind that I was missing . So thank you John. You've been a great help through this adventure.

That's Brilliant! Hope you don't mind but I'm going to burn this audio along with a few others. Sounds so good.

The Flatpups are perfect for converting your piezo builds.

You'll get many different theories on types of wood and such to use.

This guitar has a poplar neck, red oak board and bolts for the bridge and nut.

Thanks a bunch for the feedback it very appreciated indeed.. I looked at the flat pup pickup site and they look ideal for a post build fit option to go from a pre fitted piezo to a top box mounted magnetic coil pickup. With the customary high action on most CBG 's and the flatpup slim design they would fit nicely under the strings and not to hard to fit I'm presuming. One question is with a magnetic coil pickup the actual box and quality of wood used in it has very little affect on the tone, am I very wrong on that? Either way I think I'm gonna order one of those flat pups especially as I saw John using one as well :-)

Sorry Aron. As for effects, they're all coming from the amps (usually a Micro or Cube 40). I almost always turn my EQ high all the way down, the low up and use the middle to adjust. Throw in some heavy reverb, a touch of tremelo and some delay or chorus.

With this tune I used what was just mentioned  (with chorus) and overdrove it with lots of gain. I really don't know what amp model setting I used.

Aron, thank you for the very kind words.

As of now I've only used solid state amps. My setup(s) are pretty simple. Guitar, cord and amp (at least so far).

As for piezos and this kind of overdrive, persoanlly I haven't been able to combined the two very well.

Haven't been playing long and John is my inspiration sound and style wise ever since I youtubed Cigar Box Guitars, I'll now be watching all your videos too, beautiful expressionism in your playing. Would love to know what your set up is, amp, effects, pick ups etc. Can I achieve this sound with a piezo pickup and a non tube amp?
