I'm lazy and use these drum loops or just a kick drum to keep tempo but it could just as easy be a box a stick and paint can lid. I'm not into spending 2 hour recording a tune for a vid that gets 100 hits. But I should do more hearing some of the stuff people are doing these days

You're right. You can uses just about anything. Scott walker hit pig carcases to create percussion on his last album! Shame I haven't a pig kicking around. The Beach Boys used the percussive sound of chomping on vegetables, and Aphex Twin used asthmatic wheezing and coughing on one of his best tracks.

I need to be more inventive.

Dylan playing electric to some was a big change.

For good musicians to play the same thing record after record is a shame. usually do to the Record label.

The difference between The Heart Of Saturday Night and Bone Machine is a big change.

when you produce your own record you can do whatever you want!

They are a lot of people here clanging pots and bedpans together and kicking suit cases for percussion, I can make a good sounding drum out of a box. Less is more. Use what you have to make music.

I love both of Waits' musical incarnations, but I wonder if there are any other artists who have changed their direction as markedly?

Scott Walker?

Joni Mitchell?

Radiohead?

When he fired Bones Howe as producer and did Swordfish Trombone himself. Bones did all the string stuff behind Tom's piano in 70's. He use Bone in the title and later did Bone Machine.

Your know the whole make music with a hubcap a stick and marbles movement sound familiar!

Ah, I see what you mean. For Waits it was Kurt Weill, who or what was your epiphany moment?

Thanks Vinyl,  you just never know. In the early 80's Waits did somethings different and that's what I was thinkin'

That didn't sound how I thought it was going to. Surprises are always nice, and so is this. Great stuff!

Benefit of multiple personalities Turtle. It's like a band that don't get along in there.
