Hi Bruce, thanks for offerin' to join the Wisconsin group and if you know any other folks in our area spread the word ta' just come by my page to join. BTW, if you know of an already existing Wisconsin group on CBN let me know because I'd likely just cancel mine and join one already started. Anyway, let's see if we can find enough of us to have a little get together come spring time. I met some real nice folks at a Chicago gathering a couple of weeks ago maybe a "midwest gathering" could happen. Best wishes to you my friend, take care. Wally
Threaded...that's the word i was looking for.
Yes, i too thought that less wood inside the box would make for better resonance.
Let me know how you end up building your banjo.
I'd be very interested to see a threaded dowl used.
Good luck and good building,
s.
Hi Bruce,
Very nice to hear from you.
As far as the dowel goes, it's not adjustable although i'm thinking that if you were able to cut some screw grooves into it (screw grooves?...there is probably a term for that) it could be made adjustable. I used a dowel because i didn't like seeing the neck through the hole. Plus the back of the inside of the cigar is so pretty i wanted to show as much of that as possible. The box was pretty strong so it didn't need much support. I put bracing around the edges and one thin brace under the hole above the bridge. Seems to work okay. : )
Hey Bruce, Greetings from a fellow CBG-aholic from Wisconsin.I
I was checkin' out your photos, some mighty fine lookin' geetars ya' got there.
By the way, I've started a group for Wisconsin CBGers and wouldn't mind seein' the membership hit an all time high of, uhmm...., ah,...two. Gotta' start somewhere.
Who knows maybe there's enough of us together in the future.
Love the Mojo Perry vids too ! Anyway, see ya' around...,take care. Wally
Welcome aboard, Bruce! You will find lots of helpful folks and information here on all things CBG (CBU, CBB, etc.) Feel free to poke around, ask questions, and post your stuff (photos, recordings, videos, etc.).
Up in the Free Resources menu at the top, you will see a number of plans for building and playing cigar box guitars/ukuleles/banjos/dulcimers/violins. I encourage you to download any of the plans, take a look at them, and ask questions from there. Also our site is VERY searchable. I bet you your questions have already been asked, so take a few moments and look around.
Join our Chat sometime (see the bar at the bottom of your browser page). Keep in mind that tho the chat window says there are X number of people online, not all may have the chat window up.
