Vintage RCA Victor Animatograph conversion to guitar amplifier

I discovered this beautiful vintage amplifier online recently...for $50. It came in a carry case with a power cord and a unique accessory that looks like a transducer microphone of some sort for recording.

Not too much information about the amplifier, except that it appears to be an external amplifier for a 16mm film projector from 1930-1940's.

I plan on converting it into a guitar tube amplifier head.

Scotty,
There's a schematic for a Model 40B right here on eBay:

Can't tell from your pics if yours is the same model, but it might get you close.

Wish this one came with a schematic, and I have been looking online with no success to locate info on this specific unit.

But there are plenty of options with other similar tube layouts, like the Valco/National/Supro idea for example.

I may look into adding a tremolo circuit and/or reverb.

From what I'm seeing on the internet, all 3 of those 6..7 tubes are 1/2 of the 12AX7/ECC83 tubes. Should be able to get some good tones out of that.

Are you to follow the original schematic or another? You could probably build a good Valco/National/Supro amp out of that.

Great find for you Paul. I did the same with another RCA console stereo, and made a tube guitar amp from the chassis.

The 6SN7 is a dual triode, just like the 12AX7, with the filaments of the 6SN7 needing double the amperage as the 12AX7.

That's cool. I think the 6SN7 tube is similar to the 6AU6 tube(1/2 a 12AX7), maybe not. Should make a good amp.

I bought a Motorola standalone HIFI Turntable for 20 bucks at a yard sale this summer. Tube amp inside was worth more than that. Has a 6AU6 preamp tube, 2-12AU7 tubes, 2-6V6 power tubes and a 5Y3 rectifier tube. Also had a 15" speaker in it that I had to repair, but it works. Thinking of making it into a Bass/Acoustic amp.

Have fun with your build and be sure to post it in a thread, I'll be doing mine soon.
