Shane Speal's Snake Oil Band - upcoming album on C. B. Gitty Records

Equinox Music and Arts Recording Studio, Dallastown PA

Songs worked on:

  • Swing the Hammer/Big Leg Woman
  • Judy Gotta Booty,
  • Simulated Sadie,
  • Whiskey Blues,
  • Dink's Song
  • A Fat Man Will Love You (Like No Skinny Boy Can)

Instruments used:

  • C. B. Gitty "Shane Speal No. 7" 4-string banjo (pictured)
  • Swamp Witch 3-string cigar box guitar
  • Rosanne Horne 3-string cigar box guitar
  • Darren Brown 3-string cigar box guitar
  • Musicvox MVX15 amp
  • Shane Speal foot stomper

I'm dog tired.  Whew!  We started the day by re-recording the main vocals for Big Leg Woman.  My throat was ragged as a bone saw and I wanted to get a bit of Tom Waits in my singing while my voice was rough.  After three or four takes, I nailed it.  I'll probably go back and re-do the guitar part, but I needed a break from the song.

We then set up the studio so I could track live: vocals/stomp/guitar  ...and boy did we ever record live.  I slammed through five songs (Judy, Sadie, Dink, Whiskey, Fatman) in just several hours.  They're all ready to add washboard, washtub bass and harmonica tracks...plus my guitar solos.

Here's a video from today's sessions:
