For newbies who are not skilled to get a straight cut at a small angle without support, but are willing to learn the zen of letting the saw do its work, here is a DIY tool that helps your work and trains your skills:
Poor man's kitchen workbench:
The saw: japanese saw which works on pull, blade width is 60 mm / 2.36", blade thickness is 0.6 mm / 0.024", setting or kerf is 0.75 mm / 0.030". A value of (kerf - blade thickness) of 0.10 mm / 0.004" to 0.15 mm / 0.006* works best, with smaller values the blade tends to stick, with bigger values you may risk a slanted cut:
Saw guide rear view: the slotted square was part of a device to fix window boxes for flowers, I don't know which similar parts you could find to reuse in the US or otherwhere:

Ready for work, with the teeth of the saw outside the guide; lower the guide, when the teeth of the saw have sunk into the wood:

Excellent! May have to make one of these. In the meantime, I freehand cut my first yesterday. Cheap wood, cheap saw, but it worked!
